Aintree
Situated in the Liverpool suburb of the same name, Aintree is home to one of the greatest races on the global calendar - the Grand National. It has two courses - Grand National and Mildmay.
Ayr
Ayr is home to two of Scotland’s biggest races, the Ayr Gold Cup and the Scottish Grand National. Left-handed, galloping, oval track where going changes impact results.
Ballinrobe
Ballinrobe is the only track in County Mayo, and it attracts great crowds to its meetings. Hosts Flat and National Hunt racing and puts a premium on speed more than stamina.
Bellewstown
Located on the Hill of Crockafotha in County Meath, Bellewstown hosts a select number of meetings each year with racing taking place on both Flat and National Hunt tracks.
Beverley
Some 10 miles outside Hull, Beverley is a right-handed Flat track which provides a real test for two-year-olds in particular with its pronounced and gradual uphill climb to the finish.
Carlisle
Located in Cumbria in the north of England, Carlisle is a pear-shaped right-handed galloping track with a stiff uphill finish. It is a real test of stamina, particularly for early two-year-olds.
Cartmel
Cartmel is a picturesque National Hunt racecourse based in Cumbria which features a hugely popular Bank Holiday Monday card each May. It also has the country’s longest run-in.
Catterick Bridge
Catterick is a sharp Flat and National Hunt track in North Yorkshire which gives a real advantage to speedy types who race handily rather than big, long-striding gallopers.
Chelmsford City
Chelmsford City in Essex is the UK’s newest racecourse having opened in 2015 on a polytrack surface. It now hosts more than 50 fixtures a year and should soon boast a Turf course too.
Cheltenham
A wonderful amphitheatre set in the Cotswolds which plays host to the iconic annual Cheltenham Festival - four days in March which are the pinnacle of National Hunt racing.
Clonmel
Undulating Flat and National Hunt track located in County Tipperary, which hosts the Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase each November. A small racecourse, with a circuit of a mile and a quarter.
Cork
Located around a 30-minute drive north of Cork, this is a fair, fast, dead level right-handed track (per Racing TV analyst Ruby Walsh) which hosts Flat and National Hunt action.
Curragh
One of Ireland’s premier Flat racecourses, situated in an area of County Kildare which is also a major training centre and hub for thoroughbred breeding. Hosts all five Irish Flat Classics.
Downpatrick
One of two courses in Northern Ireland, Downpatrick (around 25 miles from Belfast) is located in the picturesque County Down countryside and is renowned for its warm hospitality.
Down Royal
Located near Lisburn in Northern Ireland, Down Royal hosts a Grade One Chase each November and the lucrative Ulster Derby on the Flat. Big, galloping track.
Dundalk
Busy racecourse with an impressive Polytrack surface which is located to the north of Dundalk in County Louth. Really comes to life in winter with at least one occasion each week.
Epsom Downs
Surrey track which is home to the Epsom Derby, the biggest prize of all for 3-year-old thoroughbreds. Epsom’s unique undulations provide a real test of horse and jockey.
Exeter
National Hunt track in the Devon countryside. Very fair course and fences, where trainers often introduce top-class chasers. Devon’s feature race is the Haldon Gold Cup in November.
Fairyhouse
The home of the Irish Grand National and located in Ratoath, County Meath. Wide, galloping, square-shaped track which plays host to both Flat and National Hunt racing.
Fakenham
Fakenham is the tightest National Hunt course in the country, with a unique square-shaped layout which often suits tricky types and throws up course specialists.
Galway
Notably stages the iconic Galway Festival, which takes place annually over seven days starting in late July. A sharp right-handed track which hosts both Flat and National Hunt action.
Goodwood
Right-handed, undulating Flat track which plays host to one of the year’s premier meetings - Glorious Goodwood in late July. Goodwood is a sharp course which favours handy types.
Gowran Park
Popular track located in County Kilkenny, which hosts Flat and National Hunt action, headed by the Thyestes Chase held in late January. Galloping track which makes stamina a real asset.
Hamilton Park
Right-handed, sharp and undulating Flat track which is based just outside of Glasgow in Scotland. Hamilton has a stiff uphill finish and favours horses who are ridden prominently.
Haydock Park
Haydock Park is a Flat and National Hunt course in the North West of England which has more than 30 race days each year. Hosts major events under both codes, and can be a real test of stamina.
Huntingdon
Huntingdon is a National Hunt course which hosts the Peterborough Chase in December and a popular Boxing Day fixture. The track is a right-handed oval which is fast and flat.
Kelso
Kelso is a popular National Hunt course situated around 40 miles south of Edinburgh. It is left-handed and sharp in nature, but conditions can be extremely testing in winter.
Kempton Park
Kempton Park is a premier National Hunt and Flat track which hosts some of the year’s best racing - headed by the King George on Boxing Day. Right-handed, flat and very fair.
Kilbeggan
National Hunt track which is sharp, right-handed and undulating and will not suit long-striding, staying types. Located less than an hour’s drive from Dublin in County Westmeath.
Killarney
Often described as Ireland’s most scenic racecourse, Killarney hosts Flat and National Hunt action on a left-handed track. The town, located in County Kerry, is a popular tourist destination.
Laytown
A unique racecourse which stages one meeting a year each September - literally on a beach. The track, located in County Meath, is seven straight furlongs with all races over six or seven.
Leicester
Hosting Flat and National Hunt racing, Leicester is a right-handed track with a long, stiff uphill finish to test stamina. A prominent position turning in can be a real benefit.
Leopardstown
One of Ireland’s premier tracks, located just six miles south of Dublin city centre, Leopardstown hosts high-quality Flat and National Hunt action all year round. A very fair, left-handed course.
Limerick
A right-handed track which stages both Flat and National Hunt action. Has a relatively new course, which can suit front runners and can get very heavy for the jumpers in winter.
Listowel
Popular racecourse located in County Kerry which hosts both Flat and National Hunt racing. Stages the Kerry National during its annual September festiva. Sharp, left-handed track.
Ludlow
Situated in Shropshire, Ludlow is a National Hunt course which places a premium on speed. The track is sharp, right-handed and oval with fences which give every runner a chance.
Market Rasen
Located in stunning surroundings in the Lincolnshire countryside, Market Rasen is a quick National Hunt track on which strong travellers with a change of gear can prosper.
Musselburgh
A sharp, right-handed National Hunt and Flat course, Musselburgh is situated near to the River Esk and just a few miles outside Edinburgh. It favours speedy, agile types.
Naas
Located in County Kildare, Naas racecourse is a popular Flat and National Hunt track which is left-handed and suits galloping types. The course is just 18 miles from Dublin city centre.
Navan
Located in Proudstown in County Meath, Navan racecourse is a busy Flat and National Hunt track which is left-handed and has a very stiff finish. Testing ground can make stamina vital.
Newmarket
Newmarket’s July Course provides a thorough test of stamina, and hosts some of the calendar’s finest Flat action - headed by the annual three-day July Festival.
Newmarket (Rowley)
The Rowley Mile Course at Newmarket stages the first two Classics of the UK season - the 2000 and 1000 Guineas. It has a sharp, uphill finish coming out of ‘The Dip’.
Nottingham
Situated in Colwick Park in Nottingham, this Flat course is a left-handed oval with sharp bends and a long straight. It actually has two courses - one inside the other.
Perth
The most northern track in the UK, Perth in Scotland is a really popular location for summer jumps meetings. It boasts a flat course with sweeping turns and a long straight.
Pontefract
Pontefract Racecourse in West Yorkshire boasts Flat meetings throughout the summer on a testing left-handed track which has a very short, sharp uphill finish.
Punchestown
Ireland’s premier National Hunt track, Punchestown racecourse is of course most famous for hosting that iconic five-day festival each year. A right-handed, galloping course.
Redcar
The Zetland Gold Cup and the Two-Year-Old Trophy are the major races staged at Redcar - a narrow, left-handed Flat track situated in Cleveland which tends to favour front runners.
Roscommon
Flat and National Hunt track which has undergone extensive renovations and upgrades down the years. A fair, right-handed test which has sharp turns and suits horses who sit handy.
Salisbury
The Wiltshire course is a popular Flat racing venue, situated just 10 miles from Stonehenge. A right-handed track where Lester Piggott made his debut in 1948.
Sandown Park
Sandown Park is one of the UK’s most famous racetracks, hosting both National Hunt and Flat action. Hosts major races including the Tingle Creek and the Eclipse.
Sligo
The stiffest racecourse in Ireland (per Ruby Walsh), Sligo is a sharp and undulating right-handed track suiting speedy types. Stages both Flat and National Hunt action
Stratford-on-Avon
Set in the West Midlands, Stratford-on-Avon is a very popular National Hunt course which boasts tricky fences and a speed-orientated track. Ex-Flat horses tend to prosper here.
Taunton
Taunton is a National Hunt course in Somerset which has a sharp, right-handed track and fences which are very fair. Set in an idyllic location with views to the Blackdown Hills.
Thirsk
Thirsk in North Yorkshire hosts Flat action on a left-handed oval round course and a straight six-furlong track. While almost perfectly flat, the round course is sharp.
Thurles
Located in County Tipperary, Thurles racecourse hosts mainly National Hunt action with Flat meetings in the minority. Well known for hardly ever losing meetings to the weather.
Tipperary
Left-handed, oval track which hosts both Flat and National Hunt racing, Tipperary’s summer evening meetings are extremely popular, as is the annual October ‘Super Sunday’ fixture.
Tramore
Right-hand track located in County Waterford which hosts predominantly National Hunt action. Undulating course which is tricky to ride and tends to suit a very specific type of horse.
Warwick
Warwick is a flat, left-handed National Hunt track which stopped racing over the Flat in 2014. It stages the Classic Chase, which can hold a few National clues.
Wetherby
Famous West Yorkshire track which added Flat action to its existing National Hunt calendar in 2015. Left-handed galloping course which is right next to the A1 motorway.
Wexford
Located in the ‘sunny south east’ of Ireland, Wexford racecourse is now a National Hunt track only and is popular for its Friday evening fixtures in summer. Now left-handed and suits stayers.
Wincanton
A sharp, flat, right-handed National Hunt course, Wincanton is one of the most popular tracks around. Set in Somerset, it provides a proper test for any jumper.
York
York is a left-handed track which suits strong gallopers and hosts the annual Ebor Festival each August - including the Group One Juddmonte International and the Ebor Handicap.
