Warwick Racecourse

Warwick is basically a sharpish flat track, but with one big up- and downhill run at the end of the home straight, and into the back straight. Because of this the five fences in a row down the back can feel somewhat relentless and if you start making mistakes here the race is often over for you. It’s such a crucial stage of the race, due to a relatively short run-in off the home bend. The bends are quite sharp, hence the abandonment of all flat racing here a couple of years ago, as the speed around the bends caused horses to slip. It's host to the Classic chase over 3m5f, which is often a pointer to a few good staying types for the Nationals later in the season.
