Kilbeggan Racecourse is a sharp, right-handed round track of around nine furlongs in distance. It is undulating with a particularly sharp turn after the second-last fence, and though the run-in of around 300 yards is uphill, this is no track for a long-striding horse or a staying type. There are six fences to a circuit of the chase track, which is laid out on the outside of the hurdles track.
Located in County Westmeath and within an hour’s drive of Dublin, Kilbeggan has hosted racing since the 1800s. In recent years improvements have been included not just a new complex (with restaurants, bars, sponsors room, and offices) but surfacing of the concourse area, extending the enclosure and developing a new site for tented village, developing and widening the race track to cater for larger fields and additional race meetings and opening the pavilion.
