1.20 Goodwood: Omni Man

Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 11-2.
Only nine runners, but this is one of the most competitive three-year-old handicaps of the summer, and will no doubt be packed full of future winners. The King George V Stakes at Ascot might well be the most significant form line, and I am happy to take Omni Man to confirm the form with those who were behind him at the Royal meeting.
The selection may well be the one in this field who is ideally suited by 1m4f as several of his rivals really do look as though they are real stayers of the future, and might just find this course and distance on the tight side.
Joseph O’Brien’s charge races off a 3lb higher mark now and, given that was his handicap debut, he is highly likely to be progressing faster than that.

1.55 Goodwood: Jabaara

Tipster: Andy Stephens.
Best odds: 11-2.
Redemption On Cards In Oak Tree Stakes
One of the unluckiest losers at Goodwood last year was Jabaara, who was first past the post in the HKJC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes only to lose the race in the stewards’ room for being adjudged to have caused interference.
It could not have been a straightforward decision to deprive the Roger Varian-trained filly of the spoils as she burst to the front before hanging to her right and momentarily causing Raqiya to check. That horse rallied to finish a close second.
Twelve months later, Jabaara gets the chance to put the record straight and she will take plenty of stopping if in the same kind of form.
Typically, Jabaara was fast from the stalls last year – she has a good habit of being quickest to get from 0-20mph in her races – and after being settled in midfield from stall 10, she fired off successive 10.83sec furlongs to lead over a furlong out.
Her drift across the track cost her ground, momentum and ultimately the spoils. She had also wandered off a straight course when winning a Listed prize at Carlisle last year, so it is perhaps part of her make-up.
That need not be a problem this time, though, because Jabaara has a favourable draw in stall 4 and, if breaking with her usual zest, should this time be able to grab a position on the inside.
RaceiQ’s draw bias calculations from the past 12 years point to those drawn between 1 and 5 having a marked advantage.
Between them, they have an excess win percentage of just over 29% (per cent of rivals beaten is 55%), whereas those drawn 6-9 are minus 5.35%, and those 10-14 are minus 24.72% (per cent of rivals beaten about 44%).
Moreover, Jabaara has looked as good as ever this year, landing another Listed prize at Musselburgh on her penultimate start. That was a steadily-run race in which her early gate speed and ability to deliver successive sub 11-second furlongs in the second half of the contest was again pivotal.
I’d put a line through her below-par run at Chelmsford last time as she was drawn widest of all and, in any case, she is simply a better operator on turf. By contrast, the winner, Cloud Cover, who she meets again, has raced exclusively on artificial surfaces for the past two years and remains a maiden on grass.

2.30 Goodwood: Lady Iman

Tipster: Ross Millar.
Best odds: 6-4.
Irish Raider Can Scoop Molecomb
This race contains my strongest selection of the week.
Starman has enjoyed a fine start to his stallion career with an impressive 29 per cent strike-rate of winners to runners. His first crop has been spearheaded by the Ger Lyons-trained Lady Iman who, incidentally, was also his first winner at Dundalk in March.
Since that debut win, she’s only tasted defeat once, and that came on her latest start in the Group Two Airlie Stud Stakes at the Curragh over six furlongs where, having breezed into contention, she was outstayed by the more stoutly bred Beautify.
Her penalty nullifies her fillies’ allowance, but a return to this minimum trip, and a drop in class, can see her regain the winning thread. She has exceptional early speed, and the speed nature of this track looks tailor-made for her.
Regular rider Colin Keane misses the ride through suspension, but Ryan Moore is a more than able super-sub!

3.45 Goodwood: Model Yuko

Tipster: Danny Archer.
Best odds: 6-1.
Watch: Danny Archer's horses to follow at the Qatar Goodwood Festival
She's an interesting runner for the Roger Varian team here. She finished third behind Pina Sonata at Leicester two starts ago where she travelled nicely, but I think inexperience found her out there. That was only her second start, and she also finished behind that classy rival on debut.
This daughter of Al Kazeem did it nicely when getting off the mark at Wolverhampton last time out, and I think an opening mark of 85 looks pretty lenient. There should be more to come from her and she makes plenty of appeal.

4.20 Goodwood: Angel Numbers

Tipster: Sam Turner.
Best odds: 40-1.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a better showing from Angel Numbers here. She produced some good numbers when winning at Chepstow on her debut and while she was a bit disappointing at Beverley on her next outing, excuses did emerge for that below-par effort. She's has 67 days off since to refresh, and Tom Marquand has been booked to ride.
I think the track will suit her and I think she'll go very well at a big price. Sudu in the opener would probably be my strongest fancy on Wednesday, but I hope Angel Number surprises a few, and I'll be siding with her each-way. She's now a general 40-1 chance.

4.55 Goodwood: Native Warrior

Tipster: Alex Scott.
Best odds: 7-1.
I was hopeful this horse would line up in the Golden Mile on Friday, but he looks to have a great chance in this race over 7f too.
Proven form at Goodwood is always a positive and this horse finished second at the meeting last year over 1m1f. Another plus is his form in big field handicaps, having finished third in the Brittania Stakes at Royal Ascot last season too.
His career best effort came last time on the all-weather, where he won cosily in a first-time visor (retained here). He has been raised 3lb for that effort, which seems lenient enough, and he is also ground versatile.
He is also drawn well and this son of Wootton Bassett may still be on the improve. Wathnan Racing have enjoyed a good time of things at the big festivals this year and hopefully that continues on Wednesday.
