1.20 Goodwood: Omni Man
Only nine runners, but this is one of the most competitive three-year-old handicaps of the summer, and will no doubt be packed full of future winners. The King George V Stakes at Ascot might well be the most significant form line, and I am happy to take Omni Man to confirm the form with those who were behind him at the Royal meeting.
The selection may well be the one in this field who is ideally suited by 1m4f as several of his rivals really do look as though they are real stayers of the future, and might just find this course and distance on the tight side.
Joseph O’Brien’s charge races off a 3lb higher mark now and, given that was his handicap debut, he is highly likely to be progressing faster than that.
3.45 Goodwood: Ashariba
Ashariba went on a winning spree from early August last season and looks to have a good handicap such as this in her this season.
David Menuisier’s horses generally go well at this meeting and his team have been running very well recently without recording victories.
This filly was a beaten favourite in a hot all-weather contest last time out but was beaten less than two lengths, despite finishing seventh and her reappearance effort, on turf, suggested she would be winning races this season.
She is drawn wide but given this is likely to be run at a strong pace, Tom Marquand, who has won on her twice, should be able to tuck her in and challenge late on the outside.

4.55 Goodwood: Leadman
Leadman was useful without being progressive for Andrew Balding, but he might well have improved for the switch to David O’Meara.
He has just had three runs for his new trainer but clicked in good style last time out at the July meeting, overturning previous form with Sterling Knight and finishing ahead of last weekend’s big Ascot winner Two Tribes.
It certainly now looks as though a 4lb rise is on the generous side and with William Buick booked to ride, he looks to have a great chance in a seriously competitive event.
