2.25 Curragh: Andab
Tipster: Alex Scott.
Best odds: 9-1.
Joseph O’Brien’s beautifully-bred son of Saxon Warrior looks the solid bet in this race at 8-1. Fourth in the Coventry at Royal Ascot last term, he improved when stepped up in trip, finishing a close second in Group Three company at Deauville over seven furlongs before then winning a Listed race over that trip.
He was then a close second on his first try at a mile in Doha in February, doing strong work late on, and he was an eye-catcher from the rear over a mile at Newcastle last time, finishing third.
There are some doubtful stayers in this race at the Curragh, where there is no hiding place, and this gelding is proven at the trip and looks likely to give a solid account of himself in first-time cheekpieces. The yard’s runners are also in good form.
4.00 Bath: Takincareofbizness
Tipster: RaceiQ nap of the day (Andy Stephens).
Best odds: Evens.
It has been a fine week for The Data Detective (Andy Stephens of RaceiQ) with four successive winning naps at 9-1, 11-2, 9-4 and 2-1. He also tipped Punchestown winners Powerful (9-1) and Gaelic Warrior (5-6) and went close with The Big Clubman (second at 16-1). Ranga Tang (8-13) was also another winning nap on Sunday!
Unlucky to bump into a well-handicapped rival last week and able to race off the same mark here. His numbers add up to him going one better.
4.38 Fakenham: Always Busy
Tipster: Ross Millar.
Best odds: 5-1.
Has run well on both of his past two starts, latterly over 3m4f at Taunton where he did, on occasions, jump out to his left.
Small mistakes at each of the last two fences cost him momentum and, given how strongly he finished, it's not hard to think he'd have won, has he jumped better.
He steps up in trip here, goes back left-handed, and represents connections who do particularly well at this track, so he's the pick.
5.13 Fakenham: Afadil
Tipster: Harry Allwood.
Best odds: 17-2 (each-way).
He hasn't scored for over two years, and extended his losing sequence to nineteen last time out, but his best efforts this season in better races give him a chance here, and he's worth siding with each-way.
The seven-year-old produced another decent effort in defeat when fifth in a competitive handicap at Aintree last time out where he kept finding under pressure, and is worth another go over this trip. There's a good chance this track will suit his style of racing, too.
He was also narrowly denied in the bet365 Scottish County Handicap Hurdle (0-145) in January before finishing fifth in the Betfair Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle.
A repeat of either of those efforts should see him go close, and he's now 6lb below his last winning mark, while he remains unexposed over this sort of trip, which he finished third over at Musselburgh in 2024.
5.25 Beverley: Jungle Ruler
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 5-1.
This horse has run well over six furlongs the last twice while looking as though very much in need of a longer trip. Mason Paetel is one of the best value 5lb claimers around.
He's my nap of the day on Monday.
