1.00 Kelso: World Of Fortunes
Tipster: Harry Allwood
Best odds: 3-1
This is a fascinating contest on paper, and not the easiest puzzle to solve. Hollygrove Cha Cha, Sunset Marquesa and
Listentoyourheart are among those with the strongest form, but all have question marks next to them for various reasons.
The most solid option therefore appears to be Irish raider WORLD OF FORTUNES who is proven over this trip and will enjoy these conditions.
She was narrowly denied in a Grade Three last time out and is one of the highest-rated contenders in the field. I also doubt connections are travelling over from Ireland just for a day out, and she's a dual Listed winner already.
1.30 Kelso: Captain Butler
Tipster: Dave Nevison
Best odds: 8-1
Ruth Jefferson will no doubt go back chasing with
Captain Butler in the autumn as he hasn’t done too badly in two novice events this season. However, it looks a good idea to try to exploit a decent hurdles handicap mark at the end of this current season.
Captain Butler looked a little rusty on his return to hurdles over 2m last time but hopefully he can build on that and, upped to a further distance, he should be able to go better here.
The eight-year-old is 2lb lower than when a good second on his seasonal reappearance at Ayr and this big field/decent pace scenario should suit him ideally and he is worth a close look.
2.40 Kelso: Diamond Dealer
Tipster: Alex Scott
Best odds: 100-30 (advised ante-post at 4-1)
I fancy
DIAMOND DEALER will take all the beating back on a faster surface after his game front-running second last time.
Dan Skelton's novice is stepping down in trip to an extended 2m5f here which might have seemed an odd move when he lined up at this course for the Borders National over four miles in December, but he failed to stay that trip and ran much better over three miles at Wetherby last month.
There he was beaten a short head by the re-opposing I Wish You, but is 1lb better off this weekend and crucially, is likely to be back on better ground.
His best form as a hurdler came on a sound surface and he has course form too, having won here on his seasonal/stable debut in October. There could well be more improvement to come on his fifth chase start.
3.00 Newbury: Pismo Beach
Tipster: Andy Stephens
Best odds: 20-1
The Stuart Edmunds-trained mare ran a cracker to be a close third in this contest last year, especially as she was a bit keen, could have jumped better and found some trouble in running.
With her novice status preserved, she's able to have another crack and a similarly bold show could be on the cards.
She's 5lb higher in the weights but that is offset by Murray Dodd taking 7lb off. He will arrive with a spring in his step after a late winner at Musselburgh on Friday.
RaceiQ's dats suggests Pismo Beach is a much better jumper than this time last year and her form up until a tame effort in the mud at Ludlow last time, where she bled, had been solid.
For instance, she was a good fourth from out of the weights at Cheltenham in December and next time was a fair third to Indannya at Warwick. She's 15lb better off with that rival, who is much shorter in the betting here, and you could argue 22lb when you take Dodd's claim into account.
4.17 Navan: Showurappreciation
Tipster: Johnny Ward
Best odds: 100-30
