The rain was heavy and relentless in Dublin on Friday and conditions were plenty testing enough at the British tracks, and it’s likely to be a similar story at the four Irish meetings this weekend.
Don't back a horse at
Galway with stamina doubts, but
Wexford and
Leopardstown will probably be a little less testing, and the Eyrefield Stakes takes centre stage at the Dublin venue.
It was heart-warming to see Cheltenham back yesterday, with the victory of Al Dancer enhancing the appetite for the return of our jumps stars.
Saturday:
This horse continues to frustrate but the ground is in his favour here. A strong gallop will be a major help to his chance and one of these days he will make a mockery of this mark - or me.
This 11-year-old took an age to make his debut for Gavin Cromwell but he might be worth a bet here. He seemed to be travelling well when falling on his debut for the yard at Galway, a race that Cromwell won. He will love the ground, though there are a few lightly-raced rivals to worry about.
Sunday:
Denis Hogan is a shrewd young trainer and may be able to get a win out of this four-year-old, who was far from disgraced against better horses than this last time, his first try at three miles.
This gelding by Maresca Sorrento has had more trainers than a New Balance fiend but he might be worth persevering with.
It is really eye-catching that his small yard won two of the last three renewals of this race and it is not a strong contest. He jumps well and is interesting in his first handicap.
This horse looks potentially ready to win again after staying on strongly at Limerick last time. Few of these make much appeal and the yard is in good form.
