Our in-form tipster enjoyed his seventh successive winning day following the victory of Frankness (13-2) at Salisbury on Thursday and has three fancies at Haydock on Friday, live on Racing TV.
Things have not gone well for Mattice on his past two starts, and perhaps rose-tinted glasses are needed to excuse that form but, prior to those efforts, he seemed to be stringing together a run of decent performances.
I believe it might be significant that David Allan is back on board as he really seems to get on well with the gelding. The jockey has only once finished out of the frame on Mattice, and that was when finishing fifth in a decent handicap at York.
That was off a rating of 83, and he runs off 72 here, so there is definitely a race to be won with him off this sort of mark.
There are many similar types in this race; decent performers but exposed handicappers who win in their turn.
Siam Fox (who was a late withdrawal from a warm race last weekend) might just be overpriced at the 20-1 available (at the time of writing).
Kevin Frost only had one winner in August although, to be fair, most of his runners were sent off at massive odds.
Siam Fox definitely had a lull in his form this summer after he had won nicely at Yarmouth in May. He is only 2lb higher than that victory here, though, and seemed to show he might be on the way back when fourth on the all-weather at Chelmsford last time out, despite not getting the run of the race.
He seems to like a straight course and has won at Doncaster off a rating of 87, which is 5lb higher than he is off here, and if he is on form, he should be able to travel comfortably in the front rank.
At big odds, I believe he is worth chancing to end the race still somewhere near the front.

Has not been out of the frame since joining Tim Easterby, and after four placed efforts, I believe she can land her first win for the yard here.
Can Can Girl had no issue with the step back up to this trip last time out and was staying on nicely at the finish at Redcar.
It is very likely she will be suited by what looks set to be a decent pace here, and she remains 4lb below her last winning mark.
She just needs a race to go her way to score, and a good run looks assured from this consistent mare.
