Our free-to-play King Of The Swinger game, brought to you by World Pool, is back for day one of the Irish Champions Festival!
All you have to do is make two selections for every race, and if your selections finish in the first three, in any order, you’ll collect points.
The players that accumulate the most points, based upon their correct Swinger predictions across all races, will win a share of a £1,000 free bet jackpot!
And the best news is the game is completely free to enter! There are five races to tackle in the competition for the action at Leopardstown, and I have shared my selections below. Good luck!
1.45pm - Ballylinch Stud Irish EBF Ingabelle Stakes
A wide-open event on paper. Content was a good winner at the track over seven furlongs last time out, staying on strongly to score, and the daughter of Galileo, and speedball Mecca’s Angel, are open to plenty more improvement.
Natalia Lupini is doubly-represented in the race with Making Time and Kitty Rose. The latter is the stable’s number one, and she was deeply impressive when defying odds of 25-1 to make a winning debut at Naas last time out.
Selections: CONTENT and KITTY ROSE.
2.45pm - G1 Coolmore America “Justify” Matron Stakes
Tahiyra is undoubtedly the one to beat for Dermot Weld. Beaten in the 1000 Guineas on her seasonal reappearance, she has not looked back with victories in the Irish equivalent, before a smart success in the Coronation Stakes. This looks an intriguing race from a tactical perspective, but her turn of foot could well prove crucial in the home straight.
Zarinsk has plenty of form over course and distance, including when landing a Group Two event at the track last time out. She commands plenty of respect, along with the classy Homeless Songs who is a live player, if on a going day.
However, Meditate could also be worth a play in this event. The turning track in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies’ Turf saw her at her best, and it could be a similar story at Leopardstown, given she is in need an easy mile due to her stamina frailties.
Given a break since disappointing at Deauville last time out, it is too soon to be writing her off.
Selections: TAHIYRA and MEDITATE.
3.20pm - G1 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes
An open renewal of the €1.25 million 10-furlong event in which King Of Steel heads the betting for Roger Varian. He is getting better with every run and backed up his Derby second with a smart win in the King Edward VII Stakes before losing nothing in defeat with a third-placed effort in the King George.
He has proved his versatility regarding the ground, but I am not so sure that the drop to ten furlongs is firmly in his favour. He undoubtedly has a turn of foot, as showcased by his Royal Ascot win. However, I think he could prove vulnerable to a rival with a better finishing effort over this trip.
Similar comments are likely to apply to Auguste Rodin, although he does have a win at this meeting 12 months ago over seven furlongs. His run in the King George was simply too bad to be true and despite nothing coming to light in the aftermath of the race, he is trained by a master and it would be no surprise if he put that mishap behind him, like he did after the 2000 Guineas.
Alflaila was supplemented for the race at a cost of €75,000 earlier this week and looks a fascinating runner. I was taken by his turn of foot that he showed at Pontefract last year and he has continued on an upward trajectory with glory at Newmarket before a smart win in France on his seasonal reappearance.
Onesto chased home Luxembourg in this race 12 months ago and the pair are respected, along with recent Juddmonte International second Nashwa.
Selections: ALFLAILA and AUGUSTE RODIN.
3.55pm - G2 Dullingham Park Stakes
A four-time winner last term, which included top-level glory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, Victoria Road returned from a 284-day break when seventh to the classy Ace Impact at Deauville on his reappearance.
He looked badly in need of the run there, though, and did shape with some promise before his lack of a recent start told. Interestingly, that was also his first start over ten furlongs, and connections have decided to revert back to the mile for this assignment.
A return to quicker ground will also be a plus, and I loved the battling qualities he displayed last year. This looks a canny bit of placing, and he can get the better of market rivals Bold Discovery and Buckaroo in the Dullingham Park Stakes.
The latter looks sure to give his running, given he boasts course and distance form at the track and has been kept fresh for this assignment.
Tarawa is another interesting contender as she has posted a string of good efforts in defeat without getting her head in front. Second on her most recent start, was undone by an excellent front-running performance by the winner, and in receipt of weight from all of her rivals here, she could spring a surprise.
Selections: TARAWA and VICTORIA ROAD.
5.05pm - Irish Stallion Farms EBF “Petingo” Handicap
Joseph O’Brien has a strong hand in this event, with three of the first four in the betting. Nusret bypassed the Ebor in favour of a tilt at this event, and the talented dual-purpose performer is firmly towards the head of proceedings here. A good winner on the level last time out, recording a cosy half-length success in an Ebor trial, he is a strong traveller who can crucially quicken, and he looks to have been primed for this contest.
O’Brien also saddles Comfort Zone and Etna Rosso, with the latter preferred. He was fourth in Listed company last time out, having previously caught the eye with a good fifth in the Queen’s Vase. He remains open to plenty more improvement now dropped into a handicap for the first time.
Selections: NUSRET and ETNA ROSSO.
5.40pm - Irish Stallion Farms EBF “Sovereign Path” Handicap
A 6lb rise does not make things easy for Natalia Lupini’s stable star, but Dunum looks a horse still on the upgrade. He powered clear in taking fashion under Billy Lee, and his turn of foot could again prove vital on his first start at
Leopardstown.
Broadhurst cost €620,000 as a yearling and could be thrown in off a mark of 93 having been off the track for 111 days. He was narrowly denied when launching a late challenge at Naas and, kept fresh since, he looked primed to be involved here.
Selections: DUNUM and BROADHURST.
