Our presenter and Sunday columnist Angus McNae gives you his top tips for a fantastic day of live action on Racing TV, featuring the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase, Grade 2 Fitzdares Peterborough Chase and more. Enjoy dedicated coverage via Racing TV Extra.
There is some fantastic action on Racing TV on Sunday, particularly in Ireland where Willie Mullins unleashes some of his stars.
I have three selections this week and hopefully can repeat last week's performance, where a 9/2 winner secured a profit.
11.55 Punchestown: Top Bandit
This is a novice hurdler of some potential and we have not seen the best of him yet.
Top Bandit won at Cheltenham in October and then impressed when following up at Punchestown. He was value for more than the 2½-length winning margin, idling once in front and ultimately winning with a lot in hand.
He has only had three starts over hurdles and is open to plenty of improvement. While this represents a sterner test against some useful rivals, none possess his potential.
12.17 Huntingdon: Moriko De Vassy
He is going to be very hard to beat on the back of his facile win at Hereford last time.
Moriko De Vassy thrashed his rivals on hurdles debut, winning by 30 lengths and looking to have plenty in the tank as well. That race was not particularly strong, but he could only do what he did and he strikes me as already being useful.
He carries a penalty now, but that should be no bar to him scoring again even in this slightly stronger contest. He should be supported with confidence.
12.25 Punchestown: Shantou Lucky
He finished a good third in a Fairyhouse handicap last time, suggesting that he is reasonably well-treated and looks worthy of support here at a guide price of 13/2.
Shantou Lucky travelled like the best horse in that race and was perhaps committed a little too soon, proving vulnerable late on. A more circumspect ride in this big field can make use of his high cruising speed and he looks certain to go well.
2.35 Punchestown: Ferny Hollow
He is one of the most exciting horses in training.
Ferny Hollow has beaten Appreciate It and Bob Olinger in his last two bumper starts and, although he has been off the track for just over a year, has such a huge class edge over his rivals here that he surely just needs a clear round to win this.
He already figures prominently in the betting for the Arkle and this is a first step on that particularly long road. This is a very smart beginners chase and Ferny Hollow will have to be on his game after a lay-off, but Willie Mullins-trained horses usually perform well after a break and I believe that will be the case again.
