I respect the odds-on favourite Fil Dor here but am happy to take him on with the improving Lunar Power. At around the 4/1 mark, he rates as a decent play against the favourite.
Bryan Cooper spoke well of Lunar Power after his latest success
He has improved of late, winning on the Flat at Leopardstown and then running out a comfortable winner over hurdles at Punchestown. That win came in a decent time and there is promise of more to come from this gelding who is on a steep upward curve. This is only his third start over hurdles and I am keen to be with him.
The Royal Bond can once again go to Gordon Elliott. He has won three of the last four renewals of this race and in Three Stripe Life he has another very strong candidate. This horse has not yet achieved the level of form that some of his rivals have achieved, but he has an upwardly-mobile profile and can take a big step forward here.
He finished fourth in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and was an impressive winner on his hurdling debut here at Fairyhouse. He won that maiden hurdle easily despite looking green and raw. That experience looks sure to bring him forward and although this represents a big step up in class I think at around the 13/2 mark it is worth taking a chance on his abundant latent potential.
This looks to be a very strong renewal of the Grade 1 Drinmore Novices Chase, but I like this one's chances He was impressive when he won at Down Royal on his debut over fences and he can take another step forward now. He took to chasing with aplomb at Down Royal, jumping quickly and accurately and he won with something in hand beating some useful rivals.
Lifetime Ambition makes an impression at Down Royal
It is rare that we see such an assured performance from a Novice on debut over fences and as long as he doesn’t recoil from that effort he will take some beating here.
This horse returned from a lay-off with an eyecatching effort at Warwick last time out. Ridden by a 10lb-claimer having his first ride, he travelled strongly and was merely nudged out in the closing stages, promising that there should be plenty more to come off his current mark.
He won twice at Market Rasen earlier in the year and clearly he has the potential to go in again. He is once again ridden by an inexperienced conditional, which is of slight concern, but that is factored into the price and at double-figure odds I will take a chance.
