Olmedo finished with a late rattle to win the Emirates Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) at ParisLongchamp.
Second in his last three outings, Jean-Claude Rouget's colt had chased home Aidan O'Brien's filly Happily on Arc de Triomphe day in the Jean-Luc Lagardere.
This time O'Brien fielded Dewhurst and Middle Park winner US Navy Flag and from stall 11 Ryan Moore was intent on getting across to the rail.
That meant he found himself in front and for most of the race he had an uncontested lead until James Tate's
Hey Gaman loomed up on his outside.
The pair had a good tussle for a furlong before the French challenge came, with Dice Roll on the inside and Olmedo on the outside.
As US Navy Flag dropped away, Hey Gaman was sandwiched between the French runners and it was Olmedo and Cristian Demuro who came out on top with the British raider second
Godolphin's Wootton, who beat Olmedo last time out, got lit up at halfway and went speeding around the rest of the field before those exertions told close home.
Olmedo was cut for next month's Prix Du Jockey Club to 9-4 favourite by Paddy Power and is 10-1 to clash with the likes of Roger Teal's Tip Two Win in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Chantilly is the preferred option.
"He has some acceleration to chase the leaders down from there and it's not easy here when they get away in front. He'll go to the Jockey Club next, there isn't much choice," Rouget was quoted as saying in the Racing Post.
"That's his race rather than the St James's Palace."
Earlier in the day the rapidly-improving City Light won the Group Three Prix De Saint-Georges.
The four-year-old held off domestic challengers Gold Vibe and Son Cesio, with British raider Muthmir in fourth.
City Light beat this week's runaway Chester winner Kachy with ease on All-Weather Championships Finals day at Lingfield in March, a race that has thrown up several subsequent winners.
City Of Light is a best-priced 20-1 for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next month, and is short as 16-1.
