Alex Scott, Katie Midwinter, Johnny Ward, Andy Stephens and RaceiQ share a selection each ahead of a busy day of action live on Racing TV.
2.40 Perth: Wa Wa
Tipster: Katie Midwinter.
Best odds: 12-1.
The course and distance winner won this race twelve months ago from the same mark of 110 with Lewis Saunders, who claims 5lb aboard this time, claiming 7lb on that occasion.
Well-treated at the weights once again despite being an 11-year-old, the proven contender could claim another success at Perth for trainer Olly Murphy, who has a 44 per cent strike-rate at the track this season. The veteran holds each-way claims at the early 12-1.
3.00 Sandown: Field Of Gold
Tipster: RaceiQ nap of the day (Andy Stephens).
Best odds: 6-5.
Has at least 7lb in hand on official ratings and will take all the beating if he can recapture the form he showed in the first half of last season.
His runaway victory in the St James’s Palace Stakes was in a time 1.8 seconds quicker than Par, and his Irish Guineas romp was even better, being 2.77 seconds quicker than Par.
3.35 Sandown: Raaheeb
Tipster: Alex Scott.
Best odds: 4-1.
This looks more competitive that the market probably suggests, although Action is a worthy favourite after chasing home Hawk Mountain in the Futurity Trophy in October.
Being a half-brother to Lambourn, Aidan O’Brien’s charge ought to improve for this step up in trip too, but having yet to score outside of maiden company, he is not unbeatable, and another at juicier odds that will love this longer distance is the beautifully-bred Raaheeb.
A full-brother to Baaeed and Hukum, the once-raced Owen Burrows-trained colt has already managed to do something neither of his illustrious siblings managed to do which was win over seven furlongs at two.
He travelled well at Ascot, winning readily and relishing the stiff finish, but looking like a horse that is sure to appreciate further and should have no problem handling faster ground. In his recent chat with Graham Clark for a Racing TV
Stable Tour, his trainer said: “Jim felt at Ascot that he was a mile and a quarter, mile and a half horse.”
Owen Burrows has a 33% strike rate at Sandown over the past five years with a level stakes profit of +ÂŁ15.33. This faster ground should be no problem and he can lay down an early Classic marker and remain unbeaten.
3.47 Perth: The Dog Thief
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 10-3.
The Dog Thief, who won his only point-to-point, beat two next time out winners when landing a novices' hurdle on just his second start under Rules. He had previously finished runner-up to a potential Willie Mullins superstar on his racecourse debut.
The Market Rasen win looks to be strong form and it is difficult for me to see that a mark of 116 doesn't underestimate him and gives him a real chance of making a winning handicap debut.
The trip is ideal, though he will get further, and ground conditions are similar to his previous good runs. This race may actually represent a step down in class.
6.45 Cork: Enceladus
Tipster: Johnny Ward.
Best odds: 5-2.
Enceladus looked a middle-distance or staying type at two. Third in hot maidens last term, both the yard form and his physique suggest he will be ready to fire now.
The main concern is that the trip might even be a bit sharp, but with 16 runners over an extended ten furlongs, pace in the event is probable.
