Eve Johnson Houghton plots Ayr raid for Curragh scorer Ice Age

Trainer Eve Johnson Houghton has her fingers crossed Ice Age scrapes into the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday week.

The four-year-old has come of age in the second half of the season and his win on Irish Champions Weekend in the Bold Lad Handicap at the Curragh was his third triumph on the bounce.

Blewbury-based Johnson Houghton: "If we get in the Ayr Gold Cup, that's where he'll go. I'm not sure if he'd run in the Silver (Gold Cup) as we haven't discussed that.

"I think he'll be on the cusp of getting in so we'll just have to see. There's also a Group Three at Ascot (Bengough Stakes) available to him if he doesn't get in – or he could do both.

"He used to run too free over six furlongs and wasn't getting home as he always jumped out first.

"I dropped him back to five furlongs one day and that seemed to settle him down and now he settled lovely."
