Saturday tips: our experts share five horses to follow

This is a competitive affair but Queen Of Atlantis looks capable of outrunning her odds under Ashley Lewis, who is good value for his 7lb claim.

The Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained filly has yet to win on turf but has been unlucky in that she has bumped into one on a few occasions and really ought to have won on the surface more than once. She is ground versatile and gave the now 101-rated Fair Point a race at this time of year last season.

She has had a light campaign with three starts and she has run well on her past two starts; finishing second behind a progressive three-year-old under top weight at Ascot, before being a creditable eighth under top weight in a competitive Goodwood handicap won by Protest.

Of the three horses that finished directly in front of her, two have since won, and the fifth-placed has finished fourth in a heritage handicap at York.

She is usually held up but if she breaks on terms, I would not be surprised should she make use of her position on the far side rail. A galloping track like this should play  to her strengths and she looks to be underestimated in the market.

Jason Hart is my favourite sprint handicap jockey and has won twice on this useful handicapper on heavy ground each time. Eye Of Dubai hit form at the end of August last term and had a really strong autumn campaign

He went off favourite last time in a handicap at Goodwood, the market move likely coming because the going went heavy, but he disappointed, so the four-year-old doesn’t come without risk.

He does, however, have a decent draw in stall 8 with some of the best pace just inside him, so definitely has an opportunity to show his best form. A reproduction of his fine effort three starts ago when second at Ripon would see him go very close at big odds. 

Tipster: Andy Stephens

Best odds: 18-1

His middlish draw will put some off but the horse drawn in stall 13 has finished fourth for the past three years, at up to 28-1, and has won or made the frame in five of the past six editions. 

The Blue Point colt was runner-up to Alfa Kellenic in the Silver Cup last year and has been rock solid all season, with his one subdued run coming over an inadequate 5f. 

He had the misfortune to twice bump into handicap snip More Thunder at Newmarket in the first half of the season, finishing ahead of such as Two Tribes (now 8lb better off with that rival) and Purosange, before gaining a deserved win at Newbury and finishing sixth in the Wokingham. At Royal Ascot, he zipped from 16th to fourth in the penultimate furlong, again indicating he has a big handicap like this in him. 

His latest close third under a big weight at Kempton was another good trial, while he won on soft ground at Doncaster just six days before his big run here 12 months ago. He’s a most likeable colt.
