1.45 Ayr: Kdeux Saint Fray
Ran well on his first try over 3m when third to Lookaway, who now rated 10lb higher after a subsequent fine effort in the Freebooter at Aintree.
That performance can be upgraded, too, given he hung and jumped to his left on a number of ocassions.
A drop back in trip on lively ground was against him last time in the Jack Richards at Cheltenham and is best forgiven.
The form of both his win at Cheltenham, when beating Kim Roque and when second to Guard The Moon at Aintree, strongly suggest he's better than this mark of 130, plus 3m on a left handed track will allow him to show his true worth.
2.00 Newbury: Albert Einstein
Showed good form in the early part of his juvenile season, winning both his starts and beating future Group One winner
Power Blue in the process.
He returned from a 307-day lay-off in the Gladness Stakes three weeks ago and performed below expectations, even when accounting for the heavy ground and longer trip.
It's interesting that his connections persist at this trip. The fitting of a hood and better ground mean he's worth chancing against higher rated Zavateri, who may well have peaked already given he didn't look an obvious candidate to mature much from two to three.
3.23 Thirsk: Murashah
Won impressively on his debut in 2023 for Charlie Hills but has managed only three starts since then.
The form of two of those runs read well. He was second at Newbury over this trip, going down by half a length conceding 5lb to North View, who's now rated 80. Then, on his last start at Southwell, he was beaten two lengths by Grand Karat, who now holds a rating of 91.
A 560-day absence may be hard to overcome, but he's well handicapped off 79 and his new trainer Ed Bethell has been in fine form recently with a 33% strike rate.
3.35 Ayr: Kim Roque
Showed improved form in the Kim Muir last time, when relishing the step up in trip, and there's reason to think he can do better still.
He was givien a patient ride at Cheltenham and that wasn't advantageous in a race where it paid to be prominently positioned.
His finishing effort was the best in the race and bodes well for this further step up in trip. He has a nice pull at the weights with both Ask Brewster and Road To Home and his experience in competitive 2m4f handicaps earlier in the season should help him find a rhythm early on.
He looks vastly better than his mark of 130 and with a clear passage he should prove competitive.
