3.00 Newmarket: Beckford's Folly
Tipster: Alex Scott.
Best odds: 8-1.
A competitive renewal of the Abernant Stakes takes place at 3.00 and it may be worth siding with Beckford's Folly for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. In receipt of weight here as a three-year-old, he is unbeaten at Newmarket, having won twice on the July Course last summer before showing plenty of speed to win the Cornwallis over on this course in track record time, beating several highly-regarded juveniles including Brussels and Revival Power.
He was a handful at times last year, but the gelding operation he had before his latest run may have worked the oracle and he looks too big to ignore at 8-1, especially given the impressive record of his yard's runners on the Rowley Mile over the past five years (29% / +42.55 P/L).
3.35 Newmarket: Hidden Force
Tipster: RaceiQ NAP of the day (Andy Stephens).
Best odds: 5-2.
Hidden Force is up in class after winning two steadily run races at Kempton, but can prove equal to the task.
The long-striding Frankel colt has made quite an impression, polishing off the final two furlongs in 22.22 seconds with ease on his debut over seven furlongs. And last time, upped to a mile, his penultimate furlong of 11.09sec without being extended (Wiliam Buick spent more time tilting his head to see how the others were going) again stamped him as a class act.
His in-form stable have won that race with Opera Ballo and Notable Speech in the past two years.
Going forwards, it will be interesting to see how far he can stretch out. His half-sister, Winter Snowfall, has won at up to 1m4f, and low stride cadence offers hope he will get at least ten furlongs.
Hawk Mountain has achieved much more but his pattern wins last term were achieved over a mile in the mud and eight furlongs on a sound surface is unlikely to show him to best advantage.
The respective winning times of those races were 103.36sec and 103.85sec. The mile handicaps on Tuesday's card at Newmarket (won by horses rated 83 and 92) were both won comfortably in under 99 seconds.
4.16 Ripon: Spoken Truth
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 9-4.
After winning a Cork maiden for Dermot Weld, Spoken Truth went off 9-4 for a Group Three, but finished last, and his 2025 season had few, if any high spots after that.
However, being by Frankel out of a Dubawi mare, it looked as if he would be worth keeping faith with, and he might well prove another shrewd Horsewatchers purchase.
He ran really well off this mark when fourth on his first run for David O’Meara and he definitely looks a handicapper worth keeping in the notebook. I suspect that if things have gone well for Spoken Truth since that run, there might be a strong market move for him here.
4.57 Hereford: Maestro Du Mesnil
Tipster: Dan Overall.
Best odds: 9-4.
This Is A Good Opportunity For Maestro
5.20 Newmarket: Storm Free
Tipster: Andy Stephens.
Best odds: 4-1.
Storm Free is drawn low and the data suggest that is the place to be, giving him an immediate 0.78 length advantage.
He was progressive last season and was two from two on turf, winning at Nottingham and Leicester.
Storm Free won in a time 2.41 seconds quicker than the RaceiQ Par at the former track, with his RaceiQ Time Index being 9.4 when the meeting average was 7.8. He looks one to follow.
