1.50 Newmarket: LUTHER
Tipster: Danny Archer.
Best odds: 11-4.
Who doesn’t love a bit of Idris Elba? I went to Charlie Fellowes’ yard earlier this year and he was waxing lyrical about Luther then, and he was proved right with a very impressive display at Haydock when last seen.
He travelled beautifully into contention and was merely shaken up to do the business. He is open to all sorts of improvement and given his dam won on good to soft, I’d be hopeful that he would be able to handle conditions at HQ in the Royal Lodge.
2.25 Newmarket: BABOUCHE
Tipster: Andy Stephens.
Best odds: 13-8.
Juddmonte have an excellent team of two-year-olds this season, with my colleague Ross Millar pinpointing five of their best in his latest Juvenile Watch column.
Babouche is their leader in the clubhouse, having preserved her unbeaten record by batting aside Whistlejacket in the Phoenix Stakes at The
last time.
She’s now back against her own sex with the best form on offer and more improvement in her locker. I’ll be backing her to beat French challenger Daylight.
3.10 Curragh: GREEK FLOWER
Tipster: Harry Allwood.
Best odds: 6-1 (each-way).
This mare has caught the eye on numerous occasions this season in some valuable handicaps, including when seventh at the Curragh on Irish Champions Festival weekend where she fared much better than the result suggests.
She raced on the wrong side that day but finished well, and would have finished much closer had she been drawn more favourably.
John Feane, who spoke to Donn McClean recently about his stable stars, is surely going to win a decent handicap with his five-year-old sooner rather than later, and Greek Flower has run her best races at this track.
She also handles this ground and Jamie Powell takes off a useful 3lb, so it will be disappointing if his mount isn't capable of going close again here.
3.40 Newmarket: DUTCH DECOY
Tipster: Katie Midwinter.
Best odds: 66-1 (Ladbrokes, each-way).
A hugely competitive contest, but Dutch Decoy is a horse who I believe has been unlucky on a number of occasions this season, and he looks to have good claims from a rating of 89 here.
That rating looks quite lenient considering her the ability he has and he's drawn in stall 20, which I'm hoping will be a positive.
It will be a tough race to win, but he represents each-way value and finished sixth in the race last year off a rating of 93, and was only beaten two lengths.
He's versatile ground-wise and is a consistent performer, too, so there are enough reasons to side with him each-way at the 66-1 on offer.
4.35 Market Rasen: GOT GREY
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: --
Unusually this decent French flat performer didn’t adapt to life at Gavin Cromwell’s yard and became very disappointing last season.
It didn’t get any better when he joined Helen Nelmes this season and he moved on again after just a couple of runs. There is no doubt that he has now clicked for the Skelton team, though, and Got Grey has won both his starts for them in impressive style.
He has gone up considerably in the weights but based on his back form in France, I still think Dan Skelton has a horse with plenty in hand and with just 10st 2lb to carry in this, he looks a 'good thing' to complete the hat-trick, in my opinion.
