Friday tips: Dave Nevison has bets at Haydock and Newmarket

Quest For Fun scored on his final start last season when encountering heavy ground and definitely seemed to enjoy similar conditions last time out when finishing a good second at Chester. 

That was his best run of the season so far, and he was also placed with cut in the ground in the Spring. The handicapper has not been generous as regards his mark but he is well capable of winning off 85, a rating only a pound higher than his last win in these conditions.

Tim Easterby is ending the season with his string in good form, which is another positive.

A cracking handicap to end an excellent second day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire Meeting and I am hopeful the Kubler’s Siempre Arturo might be freshened up after a recent break. 

The four-year-old has had a very successful season and recorded a quick hat-trick mid-summer before running a bit flat when a short-priced favourite on his latest start. 

Hopefully, two months off the track won’t have done him any harm and he can regain winning form over his ideal trip. His yard have maintained very good form going into the Autumn and have proved particularly adept at placing their charges.

Two out of Lord Bertie’s three career wins have come on heavy ground and he can land another victory under ideal conditions here. 

His wins came when he was with William Haggas and he has obviously taken a little while to regain his form now with Jane Chapple-Hyam, but he struck again at Ascot last time and still looks favourably treated.

Haydock is a track that generally favours front runners and there is a real possibility Lord Bertie could get an uncontested lead here, so he has plenty in his favour and can follow up.
