Palmer considering whether to Brave Doncaster before Breeders' Cup

Hugo Palmer is weighing up the options for Home Of The Brave ahead of his planned run in the Breeders' Cup Mile.

After deciding to swerve an outing in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury, the Newmarket handler has earmarked the Park Stakes at Doncaster and the Prix de la Foret at Chantilly as potential targets ahead of a trip to Del Mar in November.

Having won his first two starts of the season, Home Of The Brave had to settle for the runner-up spot for the second year in succession in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood on his most recent outing.

Palmer said: "He is no longer a young horse and I think we have learnt with him that he just does seem to respond so well with time between his races.

"We went to the Hungerford Stakes last year and it didn't work out. He was very brave in finishing second racing into a strong headwind.

"Having the two quick races in the Lennox and the Hungerford really took its toll on him and I never quite managed to get his racing condition back again, although admittedly I ran him in the wrong race in the Breeders' Cup.

"If the ground looked sound enough, I would not rule out a tilt at the Park Stakes at Doncaster and he will probably get an entry in the Foret.

"He doesn't want very soft ground and the ground at Goodwood was probably as soft as he would want it and he nearly got away with it.

"The plan has always been to work back from the Breeders' Cup Mile. I think the fast ground and the two turns will be right up his street there.

"That will be absolutely perfect for him and if he is ever going to get a mile, that is where he will get it."
