Nebo finally claims Group race glory for Charlie Hills at Newbury

Nebo enjoyed a well deserved day in the sun after claiming top honours in the Bathwick Tyres Stakes at Newbury.

The Charlie Hills-trained juvenile looked a smart prospect after making a winning debut at Newbury in May and although he has failed to add to his tally since, he has been placed in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket, the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, the Mill Reef at Newbury and a Group Two Maisons-Laffitte.

The son of Kodiac was a 4-1 chance for this seven-furlong Group Three - registered as the Horris Hill - and with Frankie Dettori on his back for the first time, he knuckled down well to get the better of Tangled by half a length.

Hills said: "I thought Frankie gave him a brilliant ride. He read the script beforehand and did exactly what he said he was going to do.

"The horse has been so consistent all year. He's been placed in four Group Twos, been to just about every major meeting and only went to France a fortnight ago.

"He's super tough and it was important to win a Group race with him this year.

"He'll have a break now and we'll bring him back here for the Greenham in the spring."

Best Solution rediscovered winning form with an assured victory in the Worthington's "Indigo Leisure" Stakes.

Saeed bin Suroor's charge won the Lingfield Derby Trial in the spring before finishing down the field in the Epsom Derby and the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A runner-up finish in a Munich Group One followed, but he was only fifth on his return to Germany in early September and he was a 6-1 shot dropping to Group Three level in a race better known as the St Simon Stakes.

Pat Cosgrave positioned the three-year-old in the slipstream of fellow Godolphin-owned runner and 9-2 favourite Frontiersman for much of the mile-and-a-half contest before easing him to the lead in the straight.

Best Solution responded admirably once popped the question and came home three and a half lengths clear of Raheen House, with Danehill Kodiac third.

Bin Suroor said: "He's improving all the time and I think the important thing for him is the soft ground.

"It's nice to see him winning again, but we have no plans at the moment.

"I would like to take him to Dubai, but the important thing is the ground. If it's softer ground he could run there, but normally it is faster ground, so we will see."
