Shaikh Nasser bin Hamed Al Khalifa’s Victorious Racing merged with his brother Shaikh Khalid’s KHK Racing last year, with their horses now running under the banner of Victorious Forever. Alex Scott caught up with bloodstock consultant Billy Jackson-Stops and former trainer Chris Wall, who act as their Racing Managers respectively, and found out plans for some of their star horses this season.

Zanthos

3yo ch f (Sioux Nation - Brioniya)
Simon and Ed Crisford
Zanthos was an impressive winner of the Rockfel Stakes in September.
Rated 111, she was an impressive winner on debut at Newmarket's July Course in August, but was then beaten in a Leicester novice at odds of 4/11. She bounced back to land the Group Two Rockfel Stakes on her third start, reversing form with the Owen Burrows-trained Touleen. She holds an entry in both the English and Irish 1000 Guineas.
Chris Wall says: "The plan is that she will head to one of the trials, either the Nell Gwyn or the Fred Darling, with a view to possibly going to a Guineas.
"I think she is fairly versatile with regards to ground. I think what got her beat at Leicester was we tried holding her up, but we learnt that probably wasn't the thing to do. I think the winner, although we've beaten her subsequently, is a very nice filly. She has settled better through the winter and will give herself every chance of staying a mile this time around.
"If she doesn't stay there are options such as the Commonwealth Cup, but if she does stay it will open up plenty more options."

Hilitany

3yo b c (Ubettabelieveit - Sand And Deliver)
George Boughey
Rated 100, he won twice as a juvenile and contested the Middle Park Stakes, where he finished seventh. He has had now had eight starts in all, four of which have came this year. The first three of those came at Meydan in January and February, where he failed to get his head in front, but he ran out a cosy winner of a Listed contest at Lingfield last month when stepped up to seven furlongs.
Chris Wall says: "On the face of it he didn't fire in Dubai, but we realised we should have listened to Billy Loughnane all along as he has been saying he wanted seven furlongs or further.
"He benefitted from being out in the warmer weather and came back in good form. We haven't got a fixed plan, but he probably needs a bit of a break before a summer campaign.
"We may try a mile at some stage - he was always doing his best work at the end of his races last year. George has speculated that he could be one for a continental campaign. He keeps improving and hasn't done a lot wrong in his career."

My Cloud

5yo b h (Blue Point - Beach Frolic)
Roger Varian
Rated 105, the half-brother to Palace Pier was three from four last year, with the highlight of his season coming at Royal Ascot where he landed the Royal Hunt Cup. He finished his season with a close-up fifth in Group Three company at Deauville.
Chris Wall says: "Roger is very happy with him. He has wintered well and is going nicely. The plan is he will likely start off in a Listed at Ascot [Paradise Stakes, May 1], and the hope is he can be competitive in Group races. If we can get a run or two into him he could take a shot at the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
"The ground at Deauville was quite loose and Silvestre said it was as though he had wheelspin on it. He had a lay-off after Ascot as he scoped dirty and I just think he wasn't in quite as good form when he came back as he had been.
"He is one to look forward to this year and Roger has a lot of faith in him. Hopefully he ends up a proper horse and one that can go off to stud."

Adrestia

4yo b f (Havana Grey - In Trutina)
Simon and Ed Crisford
Rated 99, she won the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes over five furlongs at Royal Ascot last season off a mark of 89. She failed to win in four subsequent starts but went very close at Glorious Goodwood and also finished second in the Listed Beverley Bullet.
Chris Wall says: "She was a progressive filly last year and won well at the Royal meeting. It is difficult for the three-year-olds when they take on the tough older horses, but she is a big strong filly now and will be campaigned at Stakes level in search of more black-type. Hopefully she will win one and be a valuable broodmare."

Flying Comet

3yo b c (Havana Grey - Starboard Watch)
Simon and Ed Crisford
Rated 96, he won twice from seven starts as a juvenile and placed third in the Group Two Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury. He has been seen twice at Meydan this winter, winning once in a conditions race over six furlongs.
Chris Wall says: "He will have a break now but is one for a summer campaign. He prefers a sounder surface and is a bit of a hold-up horse. It might be worth trying him over seven furlongs at some point. He sat close up off a strong pace last time [finished sixth], so I think riding him patiently is how to get the best out of him."

She Commands

3yo gr f (Dark Angel - Havre De Paix)
Ralph Beckett
Fifth on debut at Sandown in August, she then got off the mark on her second start at Kempton in October when stepped up to a mile.
Billy Jackson-Stops says: "There is no set plan yet. She is a bit backwards in her coat but is training well and she may start off in a novice.
"We gave her an entry in the French Guineas but whether or not we take that up I'm not sure. A mile looks her trip."

Saber Strike

3yo b c (Night Of Thunder - Swiss Air)
William Haggas
Rossa Ryan was impressed with Saber Strike at Redcar.
A hugely promising colt who has won his only start to date, running out a three-length winner over six furlongs at Redcar in November, despite showing signs of greenness. The second had previously won on debut and contested the Champagne Stakes.
Billy Jackson-Stops says: "He is a very exciting horse. He has a Guineas entry, but William is going to treat him as a sprinter and work backwards from a Commonwealth Cup. He is eligible for a novice, but he could also go for the Commonwealth Trial race [Group Three, May 1] at Ascot. There are several options open to him."

Commander's Intent

3yo b c (Victor Ludorum - Lilienbloom)
George Scott
Rated 100, he has won twice from seven starts and has largely been campaigned over seven furlongs, but looks a potential mile/middle-distance prospect this year. He signed off his juvenile season with three seconds in Stakes company, at Baden-Baden, Newmarket and Chantilly.
Billy Jackson-Stops says: "We will start off in the Craven and make a plan from there, although I don't think he will be an English Guineas horse. He could be one for the German 2000 Guineas. I think he could do with a step to ten furlongs at some stage."

We'll Defend

4yo b f (Zelzal - Skysweeper)
Carlos and Yann Lerner
A winner on debut at three, she then didn't see a racecourse until earlier this week, where she finished third over 1m1f at Chantilly, beaten just over two and a half lengths.
Billy Jackson-Stops says: "She is a decent filly in France. She had her first run back the other day after a long lay-off. Her target is the Prix Zarkava [Listed] on April 5 at Longchamp."

Lethal Beauty

3yo b f (Acclamation - Amazonka)
Carlos and Yann Lerner
Her sole win from four starts as a juvenile came over an extended 1m1f at Deauville in November. She has had two runs on the Chantilly synthetic surface this winter, most recently finishing down the field in Listed company.
Billy Jackson-Stops says: "She will make her return in a Group Three for three-year-olds at Longchamp on the same day as We'll Defend [Prix Vanteaux]"

Bay City Roller

4yo b c (New Bay - Bloomfield)
George Scott
Bay City Roller, pictured after winning the Champagne Stakes, could be Tattersalls Gold Cup-bound.
Rated 117. A consistent Stakes performer, he was an unbeaten juvenile and he ran well in defeat for most of last season, giving Daryz a race in the Group Two Prix Eugene Adam at Saint-Cloud and only being collared close home by Cualificar in the Group Two Prix Niel on Arc Trials Day at Longchamp. He signed off his campaign with an emphatic seven-length win in the Group One Preis von Bayern at Munich in November.
Billy Jackson-Stops says: "He will also run on the same day at Longchamp in the Prix d'Harcourt [Group Two, 1m2f] as a prep run. He is carrying a bit of condition and will need the run, but we will run him there with a view to running again in France and taking on Daryz in the Prix Ganay [Group One, April 26]. He only just beat us last year, Hopefully turning up match fit over that trip could be our chance to get revenge on him.
"We would then like to go to the Tattersalls Gold Cup [May 24] after that. As long as it isn't really quick ground, we will campaign him in good races between a mile and a quarter, and a mile and a half. He has transitioned well from three to four."

Caballo De Mar

4yo b g (Phoenix Of Spain - Oberyn)
George Scott

A remarkable horse. Beaten off a mark of 65 on handicap debut at Windsor in June 2024, he broke his maiden tag at the eighth attempt off 1lb lower, but has now progressed into a high-class stayer, racking up eight victories, including the Group One Prix du Cadran in October. He is now rated 112.
Billy Jackson-Stops says: "He flies to Meydan this week for the [Group Two] Dubai Gold Cup. The main aim is the Ascot Gold Cup and he may follow a similar program after that. Royal Ascot is a big thing for the owners."
