The Racing TV cameras will capture the action at Thirsk and Kempton for the start of a new week. Andy Stephens has selections at both meetings.
4.25 Kempton: Criminal
This looks a thin 12f novice event and it will be no surprise if Port Of London and
Criminal dominate.
The former seems likely to head the market for his powerful team after beating all bar his stablemate, Race To The Stars, at Southwell last time, although he looked most ungainly and threw things away.
Criminal has looked a little rough around the edges himself but was unfortunate to bump into Tenability on his handicap bow at Ascot last time. The winner has gone in twice more at Ascot and is now rated 19lb higher in the ratings.
This looks a good opportunity for Criminal to go one better and end a dry run for his trainer, Richard Hughes, who has gone more than three weeks and 40 runners without a winner. He’s had eight seconds and plenty more hit the frame during this time, so stable form is not a worry.
4.50 Thirsk: Ravishing Beauty
The Jedd O’Keeffe-trained filly is holding her form well and can get back to winning ways in a race where most of the opposition seem to be going through the motions, reflected by the fact that most have dropped in the ratings since last being in action.
Ravishing Beauty had already hit the post a couple of times before winning in commanding style at Pontefract in July and she then followed up at Nottingham despite idling in front.
She’s since found one too good at Ayr and Carlisle but has hinted the handicapper may not be in control. She got worn down late on in the former, before finishing best of all in the latter.
4.55 Kempton: Dancing Flower
There was plenty to like about the way
Dancing Flower kept on from off the pace to finish third to Orion’s Belt on her debut at Newmarket’s July Meeting a couple of months ago.
She never threatened to win and was beaten an aggregate of six lengths, but the penny was dropping at the finish, and she was given a sympathetic ride.
The Dark Angel filly, out of a Dubawi mare, is open to significant improvement, and that Newmarket form has worked out well. The winner beat all bar Anthelia in the Group Three Dick Poole on Friday, and is now rated 94, while the runner-up and fourth have each won at least one since, with the pair being rated 85.
Flash Of Fire is an obvious threat after her debut win at Doncaster, when a well-backed odds-on chance, but she’s got a 7lb penalty to carry and the form of Dancing Flower’s race has more substance.
