Saturday tips: Dave Nevison has four selections

Find out who betting expert Dave Nevison is siding with across Doncaster and Musselburgh (live on Racing TV) on Saturday, with a strong fancy in the 4.50pm among his picks.

1.15 Doncaster: Galeron

There are two strong factors that make me think Galeron is a bet here to at least to hit the frame. Firstly, his form at Doncaster as he ran his best race as a two-year-old when he was dropped from Group Two company to one of the big sales races (subsequently won one in Ireland) plus his best run since returning to Britain was when finishing fifth in the William Hill Lincoln in March.
The gelding also seems to get on well with Colin Keane who finished fifth on Galeron in the 2023 Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas plus was also on board when the selection ran a decent race at Sandown in July.
Galeron has been dropped 8lb since his Lincoln effort and with ground conditions also in his favour, I expect a very good run.

2.25 Doncaster: Addison Grey

This lightly-raced sprinter might be making the headlines soon as he is entered in the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup, as well as this traditional Doncaster sprint. Clive Cox has clearly campaigned this youngster with big things in mind, and he looks poised to go well here.
Addison Grey won a novice stakes by 17 lengths in July and the form is certainly not useless as the second recently landed a maiden!
He has subsequently been sent handicapping and after he didn’t get the best of runs on his handicap debut at Chepstow, he came good in strong style at Newmarket last time out.
That victory was in a competitive event and a 5lb rise appears lenient. Cox also looks as though he has got lucky with this gelding’s draw in stall 13 as high numbers are generally favoured in big fields at Doncaster plus the likely pacesetters are drawn high, so everything points to a big run.

4.50 Doncaster: Sovereign Sea

Sovereign Sea had a mid-summer break after he ran disappointingly at York in June, and clearly must have had an issue, but he returned at Chelmsford in August and was sent off the 5-2 favourite for a warm handicap.
He got beat again, but he was definitely ridden too far out of his ground on that occasion and could easily have finished closer. His reappearance form at Newbury is strong and that certainly gives him a strong chance here at this similar track.
He was second to the John and Thady Gosden-trained Burrito at Newbury, and that rival scored again off a 10lb higher mark next time out, so if Sovereign Sea could reproduce that effort, he should win this.
The form of the Roger Varian stable also suggests a good run is on the cards.

6.22 Musselburgh: Paper Doll

Paper Doll has been raised just 3lb for her recent course and distance win, but is only 2lb worse off with the rival he beat there, Simple Star, who he faces again here.
Simple Star is a useful and consistent northern stayer, but I believe he is largely exposed, and doesn’t have the upside of the Tristan Davidson-trained mare.
Paper Doll has won three of her past four outings but the handicapper has been raising her gradually, and she might well have at least another win in her based on her latest effort.
