Top presenter and pundit Martin Dixon has a number of fancies for Saturday's action at Haydock, Beverley and Carlisle, including a strong each-way fancy in the bet365 Old Newton Cup. Enjoy all the action live on Racing TV.
(Martin's selections are first provided to subscribers on Friday afternoon - any odds mentioned were correct at that time).
3.15 Haydock: Paddy The Squire (each-way)
Paddy The Squire has come back bouncing this year. He landed a gamble at Chester on his return and then finished an excellent third in a very strong York handicap three weeks ago. Ian Jardine's five-year-old is a son of Derby winner Golden Horn. yet he's only tried this mile-and-a-half trip once before, when second in a valuable race at Hamilton in 2023. The way he's galloped through the line on both starts this year suggests he's more than ready to step back up in trip now and could well have untapped potential over this distance. I rate him a strong each-way bet at a best price of 9-1, at the time of writing, with most firms offering five places (1/5 odds).

3.50 Haydock: Juan Les Pins
Rewind less than 18 months and Juan Les Pins was rated 105 plus had finished second in a Listed event over 5f at Southwell, so off a rating of 80 now, there is no question he's potentially thrown in. When returning from a break at Doncaster last weekend, he shaped like he’s in much better form, travelling with his old zest but getting no run at a crucial point of the race. He finished with loads in the tank whilst not ending up having a hard race, and if he gets more luck this time, I expect him to go very close.
5.42 Beverley: Dolly's Delight
A few of these met in a similar event at Doncaster in June, with Dolly's Delight and Toota closely matched on that run, but I got the impression with how Julie Camacho's filly stuck to her task that day that this slightly longer distance, and uphill finish, will really play to her strengths. She has early pace from the stalls, which I think is very important at Beverley as it heavily favours prominent racers, and Callum Rodriguez is an excellent jockey booking at a track he rides well at (20 per cent win strike-rate here during his career to date).
6.12 Carlisle: Yermanthere
Carlisle's card is confined to female jockeys, so Joanna Mason's rides will generally be popular on the night, and Yermanthere looks the pick of her rides having finished second in a competitive C&D handicap ten days ago. He won on his only previous trip to
Carlisle as well, from a 2lb higher mark than he races off here, so he's in form, well handicapped, suited by the track plus goes particularly well when there's soft in the going description. Quite simply, conditions look perfect, and he has the assistance of the best jockey in the race, in my opinion.
