Dave Nevsion has three horses worth backing on Friday, with selections at Sandown, Haydock and Beverley - all live on Racing TV
3.00 Sandown: Staya
Eight runner handicaps are tough to find on Friday so I have taken a look at this two-year-old sprint. Staya looks a rock solid option here.
Someone has already made a killing with this filly as her price went from £51k as a yearling, to £375k as a breeze-up. The price tag might well be justified as she created a big impression when winning on her debut at Yarmouth and ran a very good race despite still seeming green in the Queen Mary.
She looks the specialist 5f runner in this against several who now look to be ready for a step up in trip. Her form is the best in the field, but given she is described as a well-grown filly, it looks likely further improvement is possible.
8.25 Haydock: Altmore
This race represents a drop in grade for Altmore and he is running off his lowest mark since he scored on his handicap debut off 76.
Things looked very bright for the Haggas-trained gelding, but it hasn’t really worked in more competitive events. However, things definitely looked better last time.
He ran well last time out at Newbury finishing a close fifth wearing headgear for the first time. Her trainer has decided to apply blinkers here, replacing the cheekpieces, and if that proves a positive move, he might well improve past some largely exposed types.
8.35 Beverley: Oscar’s Sister
Julie Camacho’s mare had a couple of seasons in the wilderness, but judged on her two runs this season, is very much back in form.
She was beaten less than a length in two Redcar runs recently and went down by only a short head last time. She was too far out of her ground and raced very wide, so probably should have won and would have gone up much more than the pound she has been raised had she succeeded.
Oscar’s Sister last won a race off a mark of 72, but with the two fallow seasons, is now running off just 59 and could be very well handicapped.
