Our pundit Dave Nevison starts his punting week with three fancies from Kempton Park live on Racing TV. Enjoy further action from Galway, Leicester and Huntingdon with dedicated coverage on Racing TV Extra.
I’m so glad I decided to just watch the Arc rather than get financially involved. Obviously, I was thinking afterwards that German horses always go well in the mud and I might have included the winner!
I wouldn’t have, of course, but at least I have a few quid left over for these three on a very tricky Kempton card.
Sophosc is certainly well-enough handicapped on his old form to score.
His penultimate run was just his second for Ian Williams and he seemed to indicate there might be a race of this nature in him, but he did far too much last time and didn’t get home. I’m ignoring that latest effort and hope the application of headgear now doesn’t liven him up too much.
It’s my view that horses moving to Williams tend to go up in trip and Sophosc is going two furlongs further this time. If Richard Kingscote can settle him on the inside then I’m hopeful his stamina can be preserved.
I don’t often venture into nurseries but Reelemin looks a good bet to follow up an impressive success last time.
He had three quiet runs to start with and all over the 7f track here. Watching back, they were so quiet that I’m a little surprised he was given a mark - but the introduction certainly paid off last time and he was a ready winner of a decent nursery at Ffos Las, his rider not having to resort to anything other than gentle persuasion to get him home.
Reelemin certainly seemed to relish the step-up to a mile there and he’s recorded as having progressed physically since his debut. He has experience of this surface and looks very much one to be with.
It’s not quite a 500-mile journey for Proclaimer to Kempton, but it has already proved a route worth taking with a win last time out and it’s not surprising that Julie Camacho sends him down south to try and follow up here.
A breathing operation coupled with a falling handicap mark combined to bring out the best in Proclaimer last time. Richard Kingscote is back on board now and, looking at this field, has the opportunity to make all once again over the same trip.
Proclaimer has gone up 4lb for victory last time, but he was rated higher in the past and can strike again now he has hit form.
