3.50 Haydock: ARRANGE
A row of three unplaced efforts is unusual for this mare, who has been very consistent throughout her time with Martin Todhunter, but on closer inspection a drop down the handicap might well have been the aim so far this season.
Arrange did attract support and ran well enough in the big ladies race at York, but even then she was just plugging on over a trip short of what she wants these days.
She has now dropped to a mark just 2lb higher than she won off at Catterick last September (and 1lb pound lower considering the valuable 3lb claim of Mark Winn) and, crucially, Arrange has now been stepped back up to a staying trip which could well be the key factor.
Ground conditions should be ideal.
6.35 Hamilton: LONDONER
Trainer
has two contrasting runners and the row of recent victories for
is very compelling, but he has been raised a further 6lb now and Londoner - despite a very uninspiring row of zeros by his name - makes more appeal from a career-low mark.
Londoner is the son of a Prix De L’Abbaye winner, so it is not difficult to see why Goldie is trying the sprinting route, and looking through his runs shows that Londoner has demonstrated speed in high-class middle distance races.
The application of a hood may have a calming effect on the five-year-old and, although I certainly wouldn’t be risking the Crown Jewels, I do have faith that Goldie will get Londoner to hit the target at some point fairly soon.
7.55 Pontefract: WEN MOON
Wen Moon is low-enough drawn - which is a big advantage at
- and actually better drawn than when second at this track on her penultimate start, and
taking the ride again is no negative at all.
The gelding is a course winner here and, although beaten off this mark the last twice, the handicapper is unlikely to drop him further as he won well at
off 84 last autumn.
He looks well capable of landing a race such as this for trainer
.
