3.55 Doncaster: Novello Lad
Novello Lad is a regular at Doncaster and finished second at Town Moor last time out.
In typical Paul Midgleystyle, the four-year-old has run himself into form on the track and, 1lb lower than last time, he looks poised to land a second Doncaster handicap here.
The booking of Oisin Murphy takes the eye here and he is running in a grade 7lb lower than last time.
7.35 Newcastle: Bergerac
Kevin Ryan’s sprinter hit form with a win in this corresponding race last summer and then performed well through to the autumn, including when “winning” his race on the wrong side in the Ayr Silver Cup.
He is shaping up in a very similar fashion this season and came back to winning form with a win in a similarly competitive 5f handicap at Hamilton last week.
His mark to just 3lb higher than when winning last season and he looks to have a solid chance of following up.
He has bagged a favourable draw among the higher numbers and looks very much as though he will be able to lead the pack on his side, which will suit.
8.55 Newmarket: Sea Emily Run
Tom Clover’s three-year-old filly looks to be the one with potential in this 6f handicap and can improve past some exposed older rivals.
Sea Emily Run is bred for stamina but has picked up speedy genes and won well at Chester last time over this 6f trip, the narrow margin not representing her superiority.
She is only 3lb higher on Friday, which looks a lenient rise, and she will get a decent pace to race alongside, which suited well last time.
