We have a really good start to the July Festival meeting at Newmarket to look forward to with the Windsor Castle winner meeting the Coventry Stakes runner-up in the big two-year-old race on the opening day.
With six meetings on Racing TV to look forward to, it should be a very exciting day and hopefully I will land on a winner from these three.
3.00 Newmarket: Le Beau Garcon
He has the look of a horse who might have been targeted at this valuable sprint handicap (which he may well not have got into off his low mark) after his highly-encouraging return to action early last month. He possibly should have won at Musselburgh but had little chance after getting hampered at the start and did really well to get into second.
It looks significant that he is stepped up a furlong for the first time here and that certainly looks likely to bring about some improvement. Veteran lightweight jockey John Egan looks a strong booking to me and can make the most of this chance.
He is undeniably tackling stronger company here, but this expensive purchase is progressing with each run and looks very likely to step up again here in a race where not many turn up in form. Enforced looked professional and definitely showed a very willing attitude last time out when getting up to win narrowly over this course and distance.
It is difficult to find a stable in better form than Roger Varian’s with four winners from his last six runners and the case for Enforced is strong in only his second run in a handicap.
The booking of bang-in-form Connor Beasley takes my eye and this eight-year-old can take advantage of a lower mark than he struggled to win off under his trainer (then also his jockey) last season.
Beasley was on board for the first time when Little Jo reappeared at Pontefract this spring and he ran a blinder. He ran another good race last time over this course and distance and is 2lb better off with likely favourite Strangerontheshore, who finished just behind him but has won since.
The cheekpieces that were reapplied last time are kept on here and with Beasley on board I think Little Jo will go well at what I hope will be an each-way price.
Enjoy a day at the races on us! Find out more about Racing TV Club Days.
