1.40 Ascot: La Conquiere
Tipster: RaceiQ nap (Andy Stephens).
Best odds: 7-4.
2.00 Haydock: Konfusion
Tipster: Alex Scott.
Best odds: 5-2.
The most valuable race of the day at Haydock on Saturday is the Peter Marsh Chase (2.00) and it could be a cracking renewal to watch, with plenty of old warriors among the 15 entries. In fact, over half of the current field are aged nine or over.
However, the ultra-progressive eight-year-old KONFUSION has less miles on the clock than his rivals and arrives here in the form of his life, and it may well be that he wins again, despite being dealt a 9lb rise from the handicapper for his Rowland Meyrick success.
Beaten off just 92 on his final run over hurdles, he has won five of his nine starts over fences, including three of his four starts this season. He may well have made it four out of four had he not unshipped Danny McMenamin mid-race at Haydock in November, and he is now a full 30lb higher than he was at the beginning of the campaign.
Everything, on paper at least, looks to be in his favour here. Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith’s few horses that have run are going well, and the ground should be ideal. The extra furlong and a half should also be well within his compass.

2.20 Ascot: Vincenzo
Tipster: Ross Millar.
Best odds: 2-1.
2.20 Ascot: Can Vincenzo Get His Head In Front?
2.35 Haydock: Dalston Lad
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 100-30.
Dan Skelton’s six-year-old was quite an expensive purchase after winning a point-to-point, but rewarded connections with two wins in bumpers and he has improved with each of his runs in novice hurdles.
This is his first real test to see if he was worth the money but Dalston Lad bolted up last time and has been put in on a reasonable mark for his first run in a handicap.
It looks as though there is more to come, especially now he is stepped up to three miles which is very in keeping with his pedigree, and this looks a typically strong bit of placing by his trainer.
3.50 Taunton: Ted The Thief
Tipster: Martin Dixon.
Best odds: 3-1.
Very few of the 15-strong field for this low-grade handicap chase have any upside whatsoever and I think Ted The Thief is the clear exception to that. Only a six-year-old, he had plenty of experience in point-to-points, winning one at the sixth time of asking, and switched to fences for handicaps the last twice he's shaped to me like he can definitely defy a basement mark of just 75.
On his most recent outing at Wincanton he pulled well clear of everything else with a pair of improving horses at this level, with sixteen lengths back to the remainder, and I suspect a minimal 1lb rise for that effort underestimates what he did.
