4.15 Thirsk: Go Vince Go
Tipster: Harry Allwood.
Best odds: 14-1 (each-way).
This three-year-old enjoyed a busy but productive campaign last season, with a class 3 0-95 handicap among the three victories he recorded.
He raced predominantly over six furlongs last term, and while he performed well over that trip, including in stronger contests than this, his past two outings (over six furlongs) suggest stepping back down to five furlongs will be a positive.
Tim Easterby's charge only faded close home on his penultimate start at Chester, and travelled well en route to finishing third at Hamilton when last seen. The winner of that contest, Red Spells Danger, is clearly ahead of the handicapper, and the third had won a handicap in good style on his previous outing. Go Vince Go also pulled a couple of lengths clear of the fourth there.
The selection has shown enough to suggest he can be competitive off a rating of 85, and I expect him to race prominently here. He's worth an e/w bet at the 14-1 on offer, with four places available.
4.45 Thirsk: Al Hussar
Tipster: Andy Stephens (RaceiQ).
Best odds: 9-1.
Al Hussar ran creditably over 6f at York last weekend, but his best efforts have been over the minimum trip and he drops back to 5f today.
He had previously been beaten a neck over course and distance when he would have won with a swifter start. He was fastest through furlongs 2 and 3, plus among the swiftest in the final 2 furlongs.
5.15 Thirsk: Letsbefrank
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 9-4.
Chases a hat-trick here (and another 100k bonus!) having won two Sky Bet Sunday Series contests on his past two outings.
Excellent apprentice Lauren Young guided him to success on both occasions, and can claim her full 5lb allowance this time (she only took off 3lb last time out).
He's my nap of the day on Sunday.
6.15 Thirsk: Anniversary
Tipster: Ross Millar.
Best odds: 11-2.
Had shown plenty of promise as a juvenile, including when winning on debut, but his three-year old season was largely disappointing, and the start of this season was no better.
However, he bounced back to form last time out at Salisbury when battling well in the closing stages over 1m6f, finishing second beaten under a length.
If he can reproduce that form here, he'll be hard to beat, with the extra two furlongs sure to suit.
6.45 Thirsk: Thaluna
Tipster: Angus McNae.
Best odds: 9-2.
This lightly-raced filly from the William Haggas yard shaped with abundant promise at Newmarket last time out.
She was held up in a strongly-run contest before staying on strongly through the final furlong, despite meeting trouble in running.
She will likely be suited by further than this trip of a mile in time, but the promise of a strongly-run race looks sure to suit.
She takes on her own sex here, which is a hidden drop in grade and, given that she has only been raised a pound for her Newmarket run, she looks to have an excellent chance here.
