Dave Nevison's Wednesday tips at Kempton: "he looks very well in"

Top tipster Dave Nevison makes a case for his three fancies at Kempton on Wednesday evening, live on Racing TV.

7.00 Kempton: Boatswain

I have been with Boatswain at prices for his last two runs and he has disappointed on both occasions. Both of those runs have been at festival meetings and - significantly - on turf.

My reason for being with the Crisford’s four-year-old was the demolition job he did on the all-weather at Southwell when he hosed up by 13 lengths.

He is returning to an artificial surface this evening, the only surface he has ever won on, and my hopes of financial recovery rest on that being the key factor.

He has dropped down to a mark just 4lbs higher than that win, and if he does come back to form, he looks very well in, even in a very competitive staying handicap.

7.30 Kempton: Buccabay

Buccabay ran abysmally last time out and a line has to be put through that effort, but it means the handicapper has dropped the six-year-old by another 2lbs so he is now running off a mark well off his peak and 4lbs below his latest win.

Eve Johnson Houghton has decided to apply a tongue strap for the first time which is encouraging, but I feel the return to Kempton Park may be enough to bring about a return to form. Buccabay has never finished worse than fourth in several runs at the course, and is clearly well suited by this track and trip.

8.00 Kempton: Amelia’s Joy

Michael Herrington is rapidly becoming one of my favourite trainers, especially his runners in these modest grade handicaps.

Amelia’s Joy is up against two bang-in-form hat-trick-seekers here, which should certainly help her price, but she ran really well to be beaten a short head over this course and distance last time out.

That run was in the first week of September, but I am not concerned about the absence given that every horse from the yard seems to be performing very well currently.

That latest effort was Amelia’s Joy first appearance at Kempton, and was her best ever run on form ratings, so it seems probable the course suits her well.
