Djakadam was out of luck in a dramatic renewal of the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris at Auteuil.
Willie Mullins’ raider made little impact on the Grade One over three and three-quarter miles, as the Guillaume Macaire-trained
On The Go snatched victory on the line in the hands of James Reveley, who was winning the race for the third year in succession.
There was chaos at the first fence, where the Macaire-trained So French, victorious for the last two years, was one of three casualties. So French was brought down, as was Roi Image after Bipolaire fell.
Djakadam managed to avoid the trouble and David Mullins had the nine-year-old well positioned at one point until he started to lose ground on the final circuit.
Milord Thomas, successful in 2015, made an early bid for glory, but he was hauled in by Perfect Impulse, who looked set for victory.
However, Reveley had other ideas and galvanised
On The Go (9-1) to join issue in the straight.
The pair fought out a terrific finish, with On The Go getting up in the final strides to give Macaire his fifth triumph.
Macaire also saddled the third horse, Edward Argent.
