Racing TV's Martin Dixon casts his eye over Saturday's action at Newmarket and Newbury.
1.42 Newmarket: Sterling Knight (each-way)
Sterling Knight is a horse who has just been bubbling up to something this season and he’s an each-way fancy here.
He's had four runs now in the calendar year and his latest, when third here at the Guineas meeting, was comfortably his best of the season.
The seven-year-old is back on his last winning mark of 87, has got plenty of form at Newmarket plus been a multiple winner over several seasons.
He's on a very competitive mark with conditions to suit him, and I think he is coming to the boil.
2.50 Newmarket: I Still Have Faith (each-way)
He ran a blinder on his most recent start at Newmarket over a mile, in the same race Sterling Knight finished third in.
The race just got away from him as he was part of the near side group and all of the main action unfolded more towards the far side of the track.
He did really well given the way that race developed and he gets to run here off a 1lb lower mark.
I think he's just as effective over 7f and he's a horse who takes a strong grip in his races and appreciates a pace to follow and it looks to me as if the likes of Goldmoyne, Golden Redemption and Shah will give him a target to aim at.
3.45 at Newbury: Lost Boys
This is a horse who I really like for the months ahead ahead. I think he'll go on improving all the way through his three-year old season.
The Night Of Thunder colt won at Haydock on his final two-year-old start and that is a strong piece of form, with the horse he beat subsequently going on to hit the frame at Listed level.
He made a winning comeback at Sandown, justifying favouritism, just over three weeks ago and I really liked that performance as he travelled well and scored despite being quite green when he got to the front.
I thought he had quite a lot in hand, even though he only just clung on. Typical of the David Menuisier yard, I'd expect him to move forward with that reappearance under his belt and although this is a very competitive race I want to keep him onside for a good while yet.
5.10 Newmarket: Wrydcroft
Wrydcroft looks to have been found a good opportunity to complete his hat-trick for Pam Sly.
The four-year-old has thrived over the past nine months since being sent handicapping, winning four of his five starts.
He's a forward going, enthusiastic horse who should be well suited by the track at Newmarket.
You are not likely to be getting a big price about him, but I fancy he will take an awful lot of beating as he's progressive and in a field full of mostly exposed types.
