Nick Scholfield has made a tremendous start to his training career, improving a few modestly-rated, and seemingly exposed types from other yards.
Junior Des Mottes has won a couple of low-grade races and even though he has a 7lb penalty to carry here, he looks well up to completing the hat-trick in this slightly more competitive contest.
He won nicely by five lengths last week and clearly gets on well with Jack Quinlan, who is back on board for the hat-trick attempt. The cheekpieces, which have clearly worked the last twice, are also persisted with.
6.00 Kempton: Shihoku
After finishing a good second at Wolverhampton three starts ago, James Owen’s Shihoku has been sent off favourite on his past two outings, but things haven’t gone well for him or his backers.
However, it appears there has been reasonable excuses, and Shihoku looks worth another roll of the dice, given that his trainer doesn’t seem to be wrong for long.
On his penultimate start, the four-year-old did too much from the front and got run out of things, while last time out he got hampered at the start and ended up too far back to challenge.
The handicapper has basically ignored these recent disappointments and clearly thinks his mark is right, and that he can win off it.
6.30 Kempton: Expert Agent
Expert Agent might get things to fall right here and is in better form than his form figures suggest.
He was beaten less than a length when fourth on his penultimate start in a slowly-run race, and also ran well last time out in another contest that also wouldn’t have been run to suit.
There are a few in this field who like to race prominently, so if he gets a truly-run event, I think he could record another course and distance success.
He is 5lb lower than his latest success, and is clearly overdue another victory.
