Dave Nevison Saturday tips: Be sure to grab Latenightpass

I am not so sure about the 11.10am start at Kelso on Saturday but action over the Grand National fences at Aintree is always something to look forward to.
I have not particularly stuck my neck out with my four selections for my weekend each-way Yankee but will be disappointed if any of the quartet below run below expectations.

1.30 Aintree: Harbour Lake

Harbour Lake disappointed on his seasonal reappearance last term, but he didn’t take at all to steeplechasing on that occasion and he had won a handicap hurdle on his comeback the year before.
I am expecting the seven-year-old to again hit the deck running this time around, especially given that his trainer Alan King is in such excellent form.
When he was switched back to hurdles, he ran three very good races in succession - being beaten less than five lengths to be placed in races at least as competitive as this one.
He can win off Saturday’s mark and rates a solid bet.

2.05 Aintree: Imperial Saint

Aintree is a tough course to make your debut over fences, but Imperial Saint managed to make a winning reappearance/cashing bow here last month, although it might well have been tight if his main rival hadn’t run out at the last.
The Hobbs/White partnership have a good one here and I suspect the six-year-old is well-handicapped.
He won on his only start in point-to-points and has forged a solid relationship with his rider Michael Nolan since racing under Rules.
Most of his rivals are much more exposed and some are better over further, so despite carrying 12st against more experienced rivals I expect Imperial Saint to be up to the task.
Latenightpass and Andrews can rule again

2.40 Aintree: Latenightpass

At 11, Latenight pass is well eligible for veterans’ events, but this is still only his eleventh race under Rules.
He has got a fantastic record over the Grand National fences, winning and twice making the frame in the Foxhunters’ plus running well in the Grand National itself, in April, but palpably not staying the trip.
It is a very smart move shifting his focus to this handicap (and no doubt the Topham in the spring) and I would be certain he will be at peak fitness for this.
The wind operation he has had since last season could well be a positive and regular rider Gina Andrews will again be on board.

3.30 Wincanton: The Changing Man

This seven-year-old starts the season as a well-handicapped horse and this may be a very good bit of placing by Joe Tizzard.
The Changing Man ran probably his best race on his seasonal reappearance on this corresponding weekend last season when splitting Stay Away Fay and Grey Dawning.
He then unseated when going well at Sandown and hit a bit of a low point after that for a couple of runs. However, he confirmed his promise on his final start when a good second at Uttoxeter.
The Changing Man’s dam was a useful hurdler/chaser( rated higher than her son is currently) and he looks the part. He looks set to progress this season.
A wind operation over the summer may well be a positive and the tongue strap for the first time on his reappearance suggest connections mean business for his return.
He is entered in the big Coral Gold Cup at Newbury later this month and will probably have to go up a bit in the ratings to make the cut for that. I will be very surprised if he doesn’t go very close in this.
