This week is always one of the quietest of the year with the majority of quality horses saved ready for the busy Christmas period. Hopefully I won’t fall into the trap of throwing too much away trying to build up a betting pot for the Festive period.
I don’t know much, if anything, about Condarcia’s rider except that he has not yet ridden a fancied horse in half a dozen rides under rules, but he did ride this horse into second place at 20-1 last time out and may have been instrumental in getting the mare into a great jumping rhythm.
The Nicky Richards-trained six-year-old was a surprising but substantial gamble on her first run of the season - and debut for the yard - but it was clear early on it would not be landed and she never gave her backers any hope.
However, her latest run showed the money first time out had not been completely uninspired and she will not be 20-1 in this modest event.
This horse went into many notebooks on his hurdling debut at Wetherby where he impressed with his jumping and his attitude in testing conditions.
He came up against what looks a smart juvenile in Goobinater who he never looked like beating but he does not look as though he will have to improve much, if at all, to beat his rivals here.
The winners are not coming in quite the fashion they did last season for Olly Murphy, but I am wondering whether this is down to having better horses running in more competitive races.
However, it definitely looks as though he has sent this one to
Fakenham to get a win straight away as the six-year-old spent last season running in graded events or races at Cheltenham and Ascot and the like when trained by Fergal O’Brien.
He has shown more than enough to win this contest, and the market will no doubt indicate if he is fit and ready on stable debut.
