I have three selections across three meetings live on Racing TV on Thursday; Ludlow,
Carlisle and Chelmsford.
My fancy at
Ludlow will be ridden by a young amateur who is definitely a rider to note over the winter, and I am hoping my selection at Chelmsford will finally get his head in front for me having backed him on his previous couple of starts. Best of luck.
Often horses that contest races for amateur riders carry the dreaded Timeform squiggle but that does not render them incapable of winning on many occasions.
Show’s Over is only an eight-year-old and I am wondering if it is inconsistency rather than roguishness that might have been his problem and I believe he is young enough to change that.
He could certainly be helped by a relationship with a young amateur jockey and Liam Harrison certainly fits the bill. He won on this horse last time and impressed so, given that he is able to claim 7lb against other amateur rider’s, he is a jockey to side with under these circumstances.
Show’s Over is with an excellent trainer who has a strike-rate of almost 20 per cent in amateur chases so is worth siding with.
This is a highly speculative selection, but I saw this horse progress on the outside of a large field at Kelso last time and was convinced he blew up before the final climb to the line.
He has been dropped in the handicap again and is now 26lb below his highest rating, so has the potential to spring a surprise.
His trainer had a winner recently as well, which is a positive.
I have collected place money on this one on his past two runs and I am sure readers are not surprised I am holding out for the win.
He was heavily supported from 12-1 to 3-1 favourite last time out and wasn’t beaten until inside the last 100 yards.
He is off the same mark here and the race looks to have plenty of potential pace, which will suit. Hopefully it will be a case of third time lucky for me!
