Dave Nevison's top tips for Boxing Day: Slate House looks rock solid

Hopefully the prospect of one of the best day’s racing of the year will puts a tasty edge on the cold turkey leftovers for viewers this Boxing Day. The Ladbrokes King George VI Chase is a “watch only” for me as I fancy five of the six runners, but there are plenty of alternatives for betting purposes and hopefully there will be a winner or two below.
I will be having a further study between now and Boxing Day morning. If I come up with any other selections they will go out on Racing TV’s social media before racing. Have a good one!
12.20 Wincanton: Vanderbilt
There are tons of better races than this novice handicap on Boxing Day afternoon, but Vanderbilt ran well enough on his first run for six months last time that I think he might be worth a chance at a price.
Vanderbilt looks on a decent mark and jockey Fergus Gillard, who has done us a couple of favours this season, claims a valuable 7lb.
1.20 Kempton: Roll Again

Roll Again scored in decisive style last week
Has a 7lb penalty to carry for his win at Ludlow last week but he was impressive and can follow up.
I usually have Venetia Williams-trained runners marked down for January but things have definitely happened a month or so early for her this season and she has been in flying form recently.
Williams has always been a hot streak trainer to be with, and Roll Again can keep her flying high.
1.55 Kempton: Slate House

Slate House is the banker on the Kempton card for me.
He signalled that he was finally going to live up to his novice hurdle promise when he won at Cheltenham in fantastic style on his seasonal debut and then was no doubt an unlucky loser in the BetVictor Gold Cup when he fell two out.
The seven-year-old got behind early in that race, through slightly novice jumping, but it was almost in the blink of an eye that he went from near last to cruising just off the pace that made me think this is a seriously high class chaser.
A half-length victory at flat, right handed Huntingdon last time looked to my eyes like part of a plan to get him spot on for this event at a very similar track.
The preparation can pay dividends here.
2.15 Market Rasen: Very First Time
I am not going to desert this Skelton improver after being with him for two very easy wins, albeit at short odds.
He is 10lb higher again this time and going over an extended trip but I don’t think either the mark or the distance will stop him scoring again.
