Dandy Maestro has been progressing really well and might not have stopped improving yet.
The handicapper has raised this course and distance winner 19lbs in five starts this season and his latest third at Yarmouth was behind two in-form horses.
Rob Hornby had a nightmare time in the Derby on my each-way shout Westover and still managed to get him into third place. It would be easy for such a luckless ride to have knocked the jockey but it seems to have been inspiring and Hornby has been in terrific form since Saturday.
Dandy Maestro and his jockey have the winning habit and, off the same mark as last time, have the chance to notch another.
I am hoping the first-time blinkers might just give this filly an extra sharpness and help her break her maiden after a string of consistent efforts.
I am on a bit of a quest to tip an Edward Bethell winner as the yard has been in good form all season without having the luck to convert that into more winners.
Khurumbi has been typically running well in competitive northern handicaps in this grade and it will not take much improvement to make her a winner. She usually travels just behind the pace and should be able to race comfortably from her good draw. Hopefully the changed headgear will help her in the finish.
He could clearly outclass these if he starts to go forward this season and market support would be encouraging.
It is not unusual for Tony Carroll to have multiple runners in these low-grade handicaps and, on the face of it, Destinado has shown the worst recent form. However, I often feel horses take a season to acclimatise when arriving from France and the four-year-old has dropped right down to the basement handicap rank here.
Destinado was not entirely disgraced on his reappearance last time over too short a trip, while he was placed off a mark of 73 in France and may well not have handled the all-weather in three of his runs last term. David Egan looks a strong jockey booking.
