Dave Nevison: My Friday horse racing tips for Sandown and Haydock

Our resident website tipster is counting on a few contenders to bounce back on Friday ahead of a stellar Group One weekend. Enjoy live action from Sandown, Haydock, Bellewstown and Wexford live on Racing TV and Racing TV Extra.

I am continuing the theme of going for a couple of horses who have been on long losing runs that might have a chance of coming good under the right conditions.

5.08 Sandown: Maysong

On a Session proved that horses can eventually get rewarded for their consistency after long losing runs and Maysong - who has not scored since 2019 - has plenty going for him in this lady jockeys’ race.

He is bang in form after finishing runner-up on all three of his latest starts this month and he has done nothing in my view to suggest he is a shirker.

Trainer Alice Haynes has her string in very good form and has booked Fern O’Brien and her very valuable 5lbs in these races. Hopefully that might make the difference in converting those second places into a win.

7.08 Haydock: True Jem

She ran really well at big odds here on her penultimate start and is 8lbs better off with Lil Guff now if taking her apprentice’s claim into account (and she gets on very well with Pierre-Louis Jamin).

I feel True Jam improved again last time out when winning in good style at Goodwood in a strong race that has already produced two next time out winners. A 5lb rise for that success is very lenient in my book and she can follow up with trainer Karl Burke still in excellent form.

8.40 Haydock: Golden Apollo

He notably stayed on well after meeting trouble in running over six furlongs at Pontefract last time and he’s shaped recently as though he might be ready for this step-up in distance.

Golden Apollo gets an extra furlong to tackle now while he is also dropped down to 0-70 grade having kept much more exalted company for most of his career (still in 0-90 grade last time).

Any softening of the ground won’t be an issue for him and Tim Easterby is in pretty good form.
