The Boodles May Festival gets underway at Chester on Wednesday and you can watch replays of all the action on racingtv.com. Andy Stephens (The Data Detective) provides clues for three of the races.
ADONIUS
Highest Speed: 40.33mph. Draw advantage: +0.46 lengths.
0-20mph: 2.06sec on latest start.
The RaceiQ data tells us that Adonius has bags of gate speed and he can make the most of his plum draw in stall 1.
He got a Time Index of 8.2 when the meeting average was 6.8 when winning easily on his debut at Musselburgh and again showed plenty of pace when following up there under a penalty. He is capable of better yet.
BENVENUTO CELLINI
Highest Ever Speed: 41.46mph. Finishing Speed Form: 2113.
Aidan O’Brien A/E at Chester in the past year: 2.20.
Benvenuto Cellini can provide Aidan O’Brien with his twelfth triumph in the Chester Vase.
The Frankel colt signed off last season with a third in the Group One Futurity at Doncaster, having previously been a wide margin winner of the KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes. He zipped through the final two furlongs in 23.24 seconds that day and has plenty of gears.
TORNADO TOWER
Highest Speed: 39.89mph. Final three furlongs at Nottingham: 35.10sec.
Fastest Furlong: 11.39sec (best of the field)
Tornado Tower has the outside draw but this stamina-bred colt shaped with so much promise when runner-up on his debut at Nottingham last month that he can overcome it.
He was badly positioned in a slow run race that day, plus got involved in a barging match, but he still finished fastest of all in the final three furlongs under tender handling. He’s open to plenty of improvement.
