2.30 Ayr: Keep The Gold
This is a moderate and very tight sprint handicap full of largely exposed sprinters, but Keep The Gold might be an interesting angle in to it. The four-year-old is lightly-raced having has three quiet runs as a two-year-old and the same amount of runs in handicaps early last season where he shaped much better.
He ran his best race when second at Redcar on his final start in June, but may well have jarred himself up on the very fast ground that day and hasn’t been out since. He seemed to take well to cheekpieces there and they are on again for this reappearance.
After being very quiet, the Michael Dods yard had a couple of winners over the weekend and look like they have hit form once more, and Keep The Gold may well surprise a few.
3.00 Ayr: Coconut Bay (Nap)
Coconut Bay's form tailed off after a long and very successful season in 2025, but given he had been on the go since January and the ground had gone against him, that was very forgivable.
The good thing is he starts this season off a mark 5lb lower than he last won off, so he clearly has every chance of picking up again when ready. He reappeared after a five-month absence last time and didn’t do a lot, but he is down in grade (lower than that of his latest win) and, if that has blown the cobwebs off, he has good prospects.
It looks very likely he will be able to get the lead here which will suit him well. Jason Hart was on board for three of his five wins last season.
3.30 Ayr: Land Of The Giants
Land Of The Giants is still a maiden, but ran his best ever race when narrowly beaten at Cork last time out and might break his duck in this. He has to race off a 4lb higher mark over here, but that is pretty much the normal adjustment, so I don’t think it will be the handicapper that beats him.
A draw in stall 9 is probably favourable over this trip and, if he is in the same form as last time, he will go close again at least.
