Dave Nevison: Egan can at least go down fighting at Catterick

Dave Nevison was in red hot form in last week's column tipping 14-1 winner Teruntum Star and he also collected with 20-1 London Prize each-way when the horse was second in the 34-runner Cesarewitch. Our man gets in the hunt today at Catterick and Ascot.

The apprentice jockeys’ championship between David Egan and Kieran Shoemark might not be the focus of everyone’s attention this afternoon but I will be keeping one eye on it, especially as I fancy two of Egan’s up at Catterick.

Shoemark rode a double at Newcastle on Friday evening to end the day just one winner behind Egan with Saturday’s Cattrock card the stage for the final showdown.

Egan rides Memories Galore in the totescoop6 Catterick Dash Handicap and at 13-2 with William Hill that looks a bet. Memories Galore beat Bogart when 33-1 at Thirsk in August but the Invincible Spirit gelding has also run very well since.

This 3.30 is a competitive event but Roger Fell’s stable is in form and he has picked a jockey who will be off for his life in this.

Sellingallthetime is another exposed runner who will benefit from Egan’s riding and he deserves to go one better than he did last time out in the toteexacta Handicap. He runs a lot but runs well at Catterick and won this corresponding race in 2015. I am reluctant to desert my recent 16-1 winner Mr Sundowner but Sellingallthetime looks to have more to offer.

Unfortunately both races are 15 runners so I will be going in for win only, disappointingly.

Order Of St George let me down, and several others, very badly in the Gold Cup this summer. He also burnt a few fingers in this race last season but I will wipe the slate clean for him if he wins the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup.

He is the best stayer in the race and surely will not allow Big Orange to get the better of him this time.

Harry Angel is one of the best I have seen and watching him win the Sprint Cup at Haydock was one of the sights of the season.

People have pointed out that he has never won at Ascot, but that is a huge red herring for me and hopefully that will prevent him from going off odds-on in the Qipco British Champion Sprint Stakes.
