Bateel bags Vermeille victory for Francis Graffard at Chantilly

Sun 10 Sep 2017

Bateel continued her incredible season by claiming a first Group One success in the Qatar Prix Vermeille at Chantilly.

Despite failing to feature on her previous two attempts at the highest level, the Francis Graffard-trained five-year-old was not to be denied on this occasion.

Having backed up her Group Three success at Haydock with a Group Two victory at Deauville, the daughter of Dubawi had little trouble in adding the 12-furlong prize to her haul.

Racing in midfield for much of the race, the former David Simcock-trained mare pressed on together with the John Gosden-trained Journey around a furlong and a half from home.

With little to separate the pair, it was only inside the last 100 yards that Bateel gained the upper hand to register her third triumph of the campaign.
