Top analyst and presenter Angus McNae shares his four best bets on Sunday, with three selections on Ulster National day at Downpatrick - live on Racing TV.
2.07 Downpatrick: He Can't Dance
Down in grade and with blinkers applied for the first time, He Can't Dance can win for the first time in a moderate looking maiden hurdle. With a rating of 125, he ought to be able to take care of business against rivals who have not achieved the same level of form.
3.05 Ascot: Munsif
This horse is something of a Charles Byrnes project and the switch to handicap company should suit given he is a strong travelling type. He has shaped well in his four starts over hurdles and starts off life in a handicap off a mark of 126, which given that he was a mid 90s horse on the Flat, looks to be very reasonable.
4.27 Downpatrick: Slanagaibhgoleir
The Ulster National can go to Gordon Elliott and Slanagaibhgoleir who is a consistent sort who promises to stay this three and a half mile trip.
He was narrowly beaten at Down Royal last time out in Novice company (fast time), which makes his mark of 128 look entirely reasonable back in handicap company. In a competitive event, he represents some value.
5.00 Downpatrick: Strutter
Strutter is a fast free-going sort who was too free last time out when well beaten, but he had won well on his previous two starts and the application of a first time tongue tie may help Paul Townend get him to settle.
This is only his second start over fences and he is clearly open to plenty of improvement in this sphere. I am taking him to make all for the Willie Mullins team.
