Bank Holiday Monday tips: four fancies for Racing TV races

Bank Holiday Monday tips: four fancies for Racing TV races

Andy Stephens (AS) and Michael Teeney (MT) share their best bets at and Huntingdon - two of the five afternoon meetings on Racing TV.

1.45 Redcar: Naana’s Shadow

The twice-raced Naana’s Shadow sets a decent standard for some interesting newcomers to aim at.
The Havana Grey filly improved markedly from her first run, at Newmarket last month, to finish a solid second in fillies’ novice race at Southwell last time out. She could be hard to peg back from the front.
Karl Burke again has his two-year-olds in fine shape and he saddles the 25,000gns New Bay filly High Rubican
This is a first foal out of an unraced, well-bred Dansili mare (Rubican) and she looks the part on paper for a yard that is operating at 35% with their juveniles this term.
Another potential speedball is £32,000 purchase, Miss Yechance. This Cotai Glory filly also has a smart pedigree and her dam was a winner at two. (MT)

2.15 Redcar: Crown Of Oaks

This is a fascinating maiden, with several well-bred types on show.
The newcomer, Big Leader, looks a nice sort on paper - he’s a gelding by Mehmas out of a Born To Sea mare, making him a half-brother to the useful Cashew. He will  warrant a market check on his debut.
The twice-raced colt, Spy Kingdom, has finished second on both his starts in maiden company and he was just denied by a now 8- rated rival when last seen at Yarmouth this month.
However, it’s the William Haggas- trained Crown Of Oaks who has the most potential and gets the vote.
This 260,000gns son of Wootton Bassett, is a bother of the smart English Oak and was beaten just over a length into third when last seen at Newbury.
He travelled well and might have gone even closer had he not been denied a clear run three furlongs from home.
I expect him to improve once again and he should be bang there in the finish. (MT)

3.46 Huntingdon: Al Mootamarid

I doubt the breeders of Al Mootamarid had a 0-100 handicap hurdle at Huntingdon in mind when they sent their star broodmare, Fleche D’Or, for a liaison with Kingman. After all, the late dam’s offspring included Derby and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Golden Horn.
However, it was clear from an early stage that Al Mootamarid was not a Classic winner in waiting, for all that he won a 10f novice at Chelmsford and subsequently ran well enough off a mark of 86 in handicap company.
Since being sold for 27,000gns in the autumn of last year (a tenth of what he cost at Book 1 two years earlier), he’s been switched to former jockey-turned-trainer Dominic Elsworth.
Al Mootamarid has offered little in three starts over Jumps and the RaceiQ data reveals there is plenty of room for improvement in his jumping, but his latest effort at Stratford hinted he may not be a lost cause and he now switchs to handicap ranks in a thin race off an initial rating of 90.
He may just be the horse to give Elsworth and his assistant Ryan Hatch a first success in the training ranks. (AS)

4.35 Redcar: See That Storm

The Racing TV Zetland Gold Cup looks a typically competitive affair, even with the in-form Faylaq having been scratched.
Lightly raced Sir Lowry’s Pass heads the market after a convincing win on his return from a 7lb lower mark at Goodwood, although he came from well off the pace that day and it generally pays to race handily in this contest, with the past eight winners having either made all or not been too far from the pace.
Preference is for See That Storm, who usually races prominently and is unbeaten in three starts at Redcar, with all his victories being over this trip.
He’s undefeated in four starts since joining Ed Bethell, picking up from where he left off last season when scoring with something to spare here at the start of the month. The runner-up has since been beaten a neck by Faylaq at Hamilton. (AS)
