The Gosden stable's prowess in this race is well known, particularly with 3-y-os, and GAVRIEL looks just the type to enhance that record. His defeat of Balzac at Ascot earlier in the month was strongly boosted when that one landed a good prize at Newbury last Saturday and this Frankel colt can make light of a 4-lb penalty. Erzindjan, Wild Thoughts and Harmonics, another low-mileage 3-y-o from the Gosden stable, head the many dangers.
Asmen Warrior This strong stayer was undone by a lack of pace last time, but he had previously won on fast ground under this jockey at the July Festival. This looks to have been a target, yet he is 33-1.
Beagle Bay He is lightly-raced and the form of his win over a stiff mile at Sandown last time has been significantly boosted since. The 5lb rise for that win looks lenient and this extra furlong looks a plus.
First Ambition Makes each-way appeal at the general 80-1 on offer (six places most firms). The five-year-old’s high Finishing Speed Percentages suggest his recent efforts at Goodwood and Wolverhampton can be upgraded and hold-up up horses are historically favoured.
Gavriel I was so impressed with him at Ascot last time out that I could not include him in my picks here, and he is bred to be Group class.
Zennor Storm He's my each-way pick against the favourite as he has been pretty consistent in similar handicaps this season, and I can see him running well at chunky odds.
Alcarath Alan King has already landed one major handicap this season following the victory of Daiquiri Bay in the Ebor, and Alcarath can add another by bagging the Cambridgeshire.
